most likely. nick and johnny isn't a strong taste at all. very smooth and caramel-like. if you mush it about in your mouth after having it in for a while...a minty flavor with menthol mysteriously presents itself...at least with me so far. i'm referring to loose. are you using portions? they taste quite different from what i remember, closer to your description.

I'm only on my second order and still taste-testing, but here it is so far:

    Lucky Strike, Grovsnus, Ettan

    General Onyx, Diplomat, General

    :? Flavored varieties, Camel!

[ edit ] This problem didn't happen again, I'm finding that I like N & J just fine now, it has a mellow, sweet flavor and plenty of kick. I've also dug into some older snus I had from my first order, and found out that the Grovsnus Maxi portions are awesome! Grov is a really nice snus, and the maxi portions are good and juicy, I like that.

[ edit ] I've found something very, very tasty - two Lucky Strike portions at the same time. It's about as juicy as a Grovsnus Maxi portion, and has a very satisfying kick. Mmmmm!

I've only been snussing for a month but have some definite likes and dislikes. I've only used portions so the snus I list is for those.

General, Knox, Nick and Johnny, or Skruf Stark are some I must have around from now on. I also had no problem with Kronan but it's not up with the others listed above.

I also will be buying the occasional can of Ettan, Tre Ankare, or Grovsnus.

In flavors, I enjoy the Catch Eucalyptus.

I also like some of the Offroad Strong flavors such as Wintergreen and IceMint. I initially enjoyed the Cranberry Strong portion but it got a little too cloying after a while. The Ice Mint is good but doesn't seem to hold its flavor very long. I've recently tried the Apple flavor in the limited edition can but don't care for it too much.

Snus I dislike or don't particularly care for are Goteborgs Rape, Roda Lacket and Catch Licorice.

I still have many others to sample but this is my early feelings on taste.

Lmao  I saw my screw up, but didn't think it was worth editing the post. I do like white water swimming, though it's much better to stay in the boat

    Edit:
It's a sad state of affairs having your English corrected by a Dutchman :P

Why would you think there should be cinnamon in this snus?
Cassis is a dark type of cherry. And menthol is...well...you know...menthol.

And where did you find Metropol? I haven't been able to find it ANYWHERE!
Doh!! I was thinking of Cassia. They're both kind of foreign names here in the USA, and I neglected to note the different ending letter. Oh well, I still don't like the snus :P but I dig other things made from currents

Argh.. now I see that only the Metropol portions are left.
I thought Metropol licorice loose was still available somewhere. That was the best licorice loose snus ever.

^ Northerner and Buysnus have Metropol. Maybe some other vendors, too.

    Cheers!

Wow, still, that's quite a stock you have! I only have 18 cans in the fridge right now. Fifty seven will last you quite a while.

I like the portions as well. I'd still like to try the loose, but portions are just easy and convenient and I enjoy them just fine. Everyone tells me that loose is worth a shot, but for now it's the portions. However, next order I'll definitely be ordering one or two cans of loose. Hell, I may even order the loose try out box from Northerner. I started with their portion try out box and it was a perfect introduction.

Oh, sorry ops: I guess that was a mis-type. I have 57 cans of snus(all brands), and only 1 can of the Rapé. That's a lot of snus(for me). I only use about 5 or 6 pouches per day, so it's going to be around awhile. I wanted to take advantage of Buysnus.com's free shipping they had last week, so I bought whole rolls of my favorites, as well as the OffRoad limited edition set, and a couple of singles to try out. I think I'll be using portions exclusively. I'm not fond of having tobacco in my mouth (yea, yea :P ), and I like the convenience.

I'm pretty new to this, so I don't necessarily have my favorites firmed up. These are the ones I liked enough to buy a roll of already though:

    Catch Eucalyptus
    General Onyx
    LD Salmiak

I like almost everything I've tried so far. The only losers are:

Catch Cassis/menthol-(where's the cinnamon???) too much berry

Roots Wintergreen -I don't like wintergreen anyway, and this reminds me too much of Skoal which I got very sick from when I was young, and the smell of which still makes my stomach churn.

Göteborgs Rapé -This tastes good when I first put it in, but I don't care for the aftertaste it leaves. The #2 is stellar, and I'll probably get more once I've used up my stocks(about 57 cans  )

Some that have merit for one reason or another:
Lucky Strike Original- This is very ordinary in taste, but I love the packaging. I always liked Lucky cigs, and it's a good old American brand. I'll buy this mainly for nostalgia

Metropol- Again I like the packaging on this. I dig the Euro/art deco can. The peppermint is pleasing, as is the licorice. I imagine I'll only get the peppermint though, because I like the LD licorice much more.

    Comments on American snus:

I've only had the Camel so far, and contrary to most of you I really like it. This is what got me started on snus. A buddy of mine went to Norway, and he came back telling stories of people using snuff(snus) and swallowing the juice  Memories of past use of dip and chewing tobacco came to mind, as well as the memories of violent illness from swallowing too much tobacco. I was thinking those Norwegians must be hardcore, especially when he said even the women were doing this

A couple of months later I saw a setup in a Sheetz(convenience store), and remembered my buddy talking about snus. I had to try some. I got the Frost first, and after enjoying that I picked up the other 2. The original I can do without. It has a strange taste, and doesn't sit very well on my stomach. The Spice and Frost I think are both very good though. These are very different to the Swedish snus'. More like a candy than a tobacco product. The flavor lasts forever, but you can't really taste the tobacco much.

After getting the Camel brand, I started hunting around online to find more information on snus, That led me to the Northerner site, and I ordered their 24 can try out box. It was very exciting seeing all of the different brands laid out on the counter, and then I tried one...Metropol licorice mini...Hmm, not what I was expecting at all. I was a little put off at first. It didn't have that strong candy flavor that the Camel snus had, and I could really taste the salt in it. After going through several brands though I grew to appreciate the subtle and natural flavor of the Swedish brands. The stock Swedish flavor seems to be citrus and salt which very much agrees with me. While I can still say I like Camel snus, I doubt I'll get it again except for an emergency. It tastes good and all, just not as nice as the Swedish makes.
