Svedish Snus is the best in the world for health

    From times of india

FPDTC's organising secretary Prof Ravi Mehrotra said in India, about 85% tobacco consumption is in the form of various smokeless tobacco products and oral cancer is the most common cancer. In other parts of the world with traditional usage of smokeless tobacco, the link between consumption of smokeless tobacco products and oral cancer is far less pronounced - in some cases, such as Sweden, it does not exist at all, he added.

I thought the online responses to the article were very telling. Each one

    1) Accused the scientist of offering groundless and unscientific reports while....

    2) Offering their own unfounded, unscientific and emotional reply

    3) Accused the Scientific community of criminal conspiracy while....

    4) their own position would result in countless deaths by making safe(r) alternatives available

Hysteria is the opium of the befuddled and bored
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I suspect the problem in India isn't caused by the tobacco, it's the ingredients in their form of smokeless "tobacco" that is causing the problem and not the tobacco itself.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) regards the chewing of betel and areca nut to be a known human carcinogen.[6] The media has reported that regular chewers of betel leaf and areca nut have a higher risk of damaging their gums and acquiring cancer of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus and stomach.[7][8]Studies have found tobacco and caustic lime increase the risk of cancer from areca nut preparations.[9][10]

In 2003 the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reached the conclusion that there is sufficient evidence that the habit of chewing betel quid with or without tobacco is carcinogenic to humans.
That's why India has one of the highest cancer rates for it's form of chewing "tobacco", and Sweden has one of the lowest.
