Now that I've used almost a full can of the Melon Strong, I thought I'd share my thoughts. This is a very interesting flavor for snus and very well crafted IMO. It smells pretty much like a watermelon Jolly Rancher candy, like a mix between bubble gum and watermelon as others have said already. The taste is pretty much the same as the smell but it really does fit nicely with the tobacco like Justin said. It took me a while to figure out what exactly it reminded me of but I figured it out. To me it tastes exactly like musk melon or what the stores in the US call cantelope (even though it's not really a cantelope). I would suggest everyone try this even if you don't prefer flavored snus. It's a very interesting flavor. Personally, I'm not fond of flavored snus or portions so it won't be a staple for me. But I will buy it in limited quantities like I have been doing with the Wintergreen Strong and Mint Strong because I like them once in a while. I think Jacobssons has done a fantastic job on all three of these flavours. The flavours, tobacco, portion quality, and packaging on this line-up is top notch and should do very well especially in the targeted US market.

I got a can today and it is definitely what they say it is MELON. The buublegum smell almost put me off but it is certainly melon. Same Gotlands quality moist, fat portions. I will say however I'm glad I only got one can. They did a great job with it the flavor is just a little too out there for me to use even as a dessert snus.

I just got mine today and I agree with the watermelon bubblegum comparison. It is absolutely delicious. The flavour loves you long time. It reminds me of summer, which is welcome on a cold night like tonight. My wife likes the smell and is going to try one tonight and she doesn't even snus! I have a feeling that may change now. By far my favourite Jakobsson's portion and I will be ordering many more.

I got this in the mail yesterday. When I opened the envelope I thought there was an air freshener it. Portions were nice and moist. Flavor reminds me of watermelon bubblegum, tasty! it seems to last a while to boot. Certainly worth a try if you're feeling in the mood for something different that isn't minty or bergamotty.

I have to say that amongst Estonian snuser this snus is going to be really popular, been handing out portions all weekend, got 2 portions left of this, everybody who tried it, loved the smell and long lasting taste.
    Good job Gotlandssnus!

Another review from a person that normally doesn't use portions.....

Part of the genius of this snus is its uniqueness. I compare its uniqueness to when V2 released Thunder Frosted or when Gallaher released LD Black. It will be a snus you either love or hate. So far, I tend to think I will be one of the people who love it. The only drawback I can see is falling in love it and then using it so much that you get burned out on it. It's definitely worth atleast one can as a trial even if you don't think you'd like it.

Jackobssons has managed to show us what is possible when designing a flavor that has the potential to be a breakthrough "foot in the door" product to introduce Americans to Swedish snus. This is the product that RJ Reynolds or Altria should have released but didn't. I can see this as a product that will appeal to America's dip crowd and to the newbie snuser who is turned off by traditional Swedish snus as well as a change of pace or dessert snus for your regular snuser.

My package arrived today after pulling an all-nighter working on a project. I didn't want to try my first portion in a sleep deprived state and chance falling asleep with it tucked under my lip. So my initial impression was limited to how it smelled. The aroma reminded me of the Bazooka bubble gum of my childhood back in the days when you bought candy bars for 5 & 10 cents at your neighborhood pharmacy. This is definitely a snus that won't turn off your non-snusing friends by it's smell. The only drawback I can see is the tobacco Nazis complaining that this snus is an attempt to appeal to the children. So the can went into the fridge and off to bed I went for some much needed sleep.

After waking up and grabbing some coffee I got to sample my first portion. All though the smell may say bubblegum, the flavor doesn't. I think lxskllr nailed it, it's a cross between watermelon and sour apple. It reminds me of what I remember as the taste of Jolly Rancher when I was younger, mind you it's what I "remember" Jolly Rancher tasted like when looking for a description of the flavor. It's a very pleasant not too strong pleasing taste. I probably overworked the portion with my tongue trying to analyze the flavor. I managed to get an hour of flavor before I felt the the need to grab my first prilla of lössnus for the day. If I hadn't have over analyzed the flavor and used the portion normally I probably would have gotten an hour and a half or two hours of flavor from the portion. It definitely has staying power.

One last observation, I don't think there is any sour apple flavor in this snus. I think it's the interaction of the slightly bitter tobacco being used and its interaction with the melon flavor that gives us the impression of the sour apple flavor. The illusion is part of the artistry involved in knowing how to flavor the tobacco you are working with to bring out the unique flavors of the underlying tobacco. I imagine anyone trying to copy this flavor with a different tobacco will have difficult time trying to duplicate it without ending up with an artificial tasting product.

This is definitely a snus that should do well for Jakobssons. Jimmy you've done yourself proud. Congrats.

Awesome taste, the best snus made by Gotlands this far I think. It never changes the taste and I could have it in for like 2 hours and still got some taste from it, pretty sweet. The nicotine level is nice too.

    Copy/pasta from the blog section...

This is an interesting snus, and quite unlike any I've had before. The scent is strong, easily escaping the sealed tin. Opening the tin, the first scent is watermelon(surprise!), but sticking my nose inside, and breathing deep brings up the scent of sour apple. I guess it's still watermelon, but sour apple is what immediately comes to mind. Weird...

As is typical for Jakobssons, the portions are plump, with a good moisture content. First thought when putting the portion in my mouth is "bubblegum". The stock flavor that bubblegum is, though I don't know what you'd call it. After that, the melon flavor comes up from the back, and for the next 15 minutes or so trades places back and forth with the bubblegum. There's a mild tartness, and the trademark Gotlandssnus bitterness lingers in the background with medium sweetness.

After 15 minutes, it mellows out and the melon flavor dominates, still with the bitterness, and the sweetness nicely attenuated. I still get a bit of sour apple in the background, but I think I'm just confusing that with the melon due to lack of familiarity. One hour in, and the flavor is still holding up well, though it is muted as one would expect.

All told, this is another fine addition to the Jakobsson's American lineup. I specify American, as I think this flavor will be especially appealing to American tastes. For me personally, I'm more of a traditionalist as far as snus flavors go, and as most of you are aware, I use use lössnus almost exclusively. I highly recommend it to everyone, and suspect it will become the favorite of many.

As an aside, the clumsy English is still on the back of the tin...

"Jakobsson's uniquely snus was early recognized thanks to it's special blend..."

    Tsk Tsk guys :^P
