New to the forum, checking in

Hi everyone, thought I would say hello. I have been dipping Copenhagen for the past 15 years. My mouth has really been taking a beating over the past couple of years so i thought I would try to crossover to snus and see how I fare. Placed an order with northerner a few days ago and according to ups it should be here today. I have tried Skruf portions a few times from a guy at work but wasn't to keen on the teabag/bandit thing. So I decided to go with a all loose order. I ordered alittle variety to try, Thunder Frosted Strong Loose, Gotland Original Loose, Gotland Anis Loose, General Loose, Goteborgs Rape Loose, and General Ekstra Sterk Loose. Oh and a prismaster to get me started. Wish me luck!

Welcome to SnusOn! With your dipping experience, you might want to experiment with handbaking instead of using the PrisMaster. They're OK, but a little awkward to use.

Another popular and low-cost option is the "ghetto tool" -- get a 3 ml syringe from a pharmacy and cut the business end off. Works good, and mimics the IceTool without the expense.

Of course, if you find you really like loose snus, you'll want to invest in an IceTool. They're pricey, but occasionally there will be a good deal on one in the Auctions section, or someone will offer a used one on the exchange thread. But even if you pay full price for one, they're worth every penny.

You picked a nice variety of brands to start you off. Have fun here!

when I first tried loose I used it just like dip in the bottom lip. Now I like it up top. I also hand bake most of the time, waiting to order an icetool. Not sure if it is worth it for me.

It's good to know that snus doesn't have fiberglass init.

Thanks for the info on the syringe, I have a bunch of 3ml's that we use to give medicine our son at times. I will grab a old one of those and try the ghetto tool too! Yeah I didn't really feel like fussing with the portions. I didn't want to get turned off by them and go back to cope. I am used to loose snuff so I figured the transition wouldn't be too bad. I think that is what made me look into snus, the fact that guy who let me try it said it isn't loaded with garbage like American snuff. After a decade and a half of Copenhagen the lower half of my mouth is pretty beat. Thanks guys, I will be reviewing threads for the next few weeks before asking a that I sure have already been covered.

            Welcome to SnusOn.

The ghetto tool works well. I use a 5 ml, and other than the fact that it makes too fat a pris, it works great.

Though I only use Lös at home so it's not a problem.

One advantage of the syringe method is that unlike the Icetool you can see when you've packed it full so there's a bit less of a tendency to make an overly tight pris. And oh yeah Claywp don't give up so quickly on portions. There is a huge variety with something for just about everyone and they are perfect for situations where using loose would be a social faux pas (the hospital, church, your mom's house) or just simply inconvenient. As far as "fussing" goes portions are pretty darn fuss-free in actual use, rather less so than loose I'd say.

@ Darwin : you are right about not short changing the portions. The few times I have uses them, I didn't like the feel of the packaging in my lip. I guess that is what you would call it. I am just not used to it, I will work them in and give them a chance.

I picked up the package and the first one I tried was the Gotland yellow. I used a syringe instead of the prismaster. I really enjoyed it but didn't pack it tight enough so it kind of fell apart. Shortly after, I opened up the Thunder Frosted Strong. I really packed it tight in the syringe and it has been going strong for about an hour now. I have never been a fan of flavored tobacco but the thunder is rather nice. A decent little buzz at first too!

Welcome to SnusOn, you've got a nice selection there.
I played with a ghetto tool for awhile and found hand baking to be much easier.

                            Welcome fellow Ex-Coper.

Chewd the shite for 30 years until last Oct when I converted to Snus. Good mix of lös there you have. May I recommend some Oden's ES (Either Original or Kanel). I think being an ex cope dipper you might appreciate these. I would say the flavor is not quite the same but there is something about it that satisfies a bit like Copenhagen fine snuff.
