I guess I might be missing out on the lös experience, but it seems more difficult to be discreet with it - one of the huge benefits of snus to me.

Yeah, I'm kinda dumb with Linux still, I mostly use it for the security of it. Bût I fõund the chăracter map, so I guesś that'll woŕk.

Sure, man. Appreciate the input! I think maybe I'll start a sci-fi TV thread, though, so this one doesn't get cluttered up. Though it seems every thread here goes wildly off-topic eventually.

If you setup keyboard composing, you can build the different characters. For example, I have my compose key set to menu.

menu plus " plus o gives you ö
menu plus - plus l gives you £
menu plus o plus o gives you °

          Tried a couple more.

Ettan White Portion - Good stuff. Of course it's similar to Ettan OP. Just a bit more muted. For some reason, I think I like it better than the OP. Same salty goodness, but - and this could be just my imagination - the usual bitterness of the tobacco was muted somewhat as well. The first one of these I tried was heavenly. This was the first snus I've had that I was reluctant to spit out; I just kept messing with it, getting more flavor out of it. Later portions weren't quite as amazing, but I think this is going to be tough for the Grov and others to beat, but we'll see...

Skruf Tranbär - I have no idea how to describe this. This was one of the ones in my order I was most curious about. I wasn't sure what to expect. And I'm still not quite sure what I got. First, upon opening it: "Hmm, that smells good! Wait, that's weird, what is that?" Not really cranberry-smelling, sorta more like banana flavor? Or flowers? Some fruity-flower-thing going on, though. Then I popped it in, ready for anything... and waited... and waited...

Okay, this is a subtle flavor. It took a while to show up, and when it did, it wasn't strong. Started as gentle hints of floating flavor, like a piece of music heard from a distance that you almost recognize, then it's gone. It wasn't until the portion got pretty moist that I could even begin to think about what it actually tasted like. It isn't sweet. It isn't salty. It isn't peppery. It isn't bitter. It is unique. Again, the best I can describe it is fruity flowery tobacco. I'm still looking for the cranberry. Maybe it's in there somewhere. But don't expect this to taste like cranberry juice or something.

Do I like it? Hmm... I don't know yet. I want to like it. It's pleasant, in its way. Maybe my taste buds are damaged from smoking. Maybe I need to be a more experienced snuser. Or maybe I'm just too American to truly appreciate it. But I'm giving it a good try.

Interesting take on the transbar. I've considered trying that for a while now but based on how you described it I'd probably hate it. Ettan is pretty much a gold standard (no pun intended) and you can experience with it by adding other flavors to it like rootbeer extract etc. just don't use anything that has sugar really for obvious reasons.

I prefer Los snus 100% of the time. You get more tobacco per can. I only use portions when I really need to.

Los can be really discreet, actually. You get used to holding it in your mouth correctly and it tastes a lot better than the portion versions almost always. I remove it right before it starts to fall apart, so it is kind of a "learned" thing. Yea, it's a little harder to be discreet with it but I have yet to get a dirty look from using los where as when I smoked I got tons constantly. Usually I toss the used Los portion in an empty snus/snuff can and dispose of it later.

I also use dip though and I get some strange looks from using that but I usually carry a bottle with me or something so people think I'm sipping on coffee or something way too much.

and yes tranbar does smell like bananas for some odd reason to me also

Okay, you guys have convinced me to try lös. I'll order a can of Ettan Lös with my next order.

Got a few more first impressions:

Grov Original, White, Strong: More "earthy" tasting tobacco. Little bit more peppery, like General. And like General, it kind of irritates my throat. If it was the only kind of snus I could get, it would work, but I don't like it as much as Ettan.

Oden's Original: This is good, but there's a flavor in it that I can't identify that I'm not sure about. I wish I liked it more, because of the price, but it might grow on me by the time I finish the can. Nice tin, though.

Jakobsson's Classic Strong: However Jakobsson's does it, it works for me. So far I love the Fläder and I love this, too. I guess they made this flavor to appeal to the "American" market. Well, I guess I'm their target market. It's sweet, kinda like honey, but not overly. It just tastes great. These are a strong portion and they work well for when I need that. I've been using this as my after-dinner snus; it's perfect for it. I've had a can of this before, but it was way out of date. This was definitely much fresher and I can tell the difference. I'll be ordering a roll or two of this on my next order.

So far the winners are Ettan White Portion, and Jakobsson's Classic Strong and Fläder.

I almost wish I hadn't ordered so many different kinds of snus. Now I'm stuck making myself go through a bunch I don't really like so as not to waste them. Oh well, I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Close to finishing off the Tranbär and it's gotten worse. The Grov is meh. Oden's is disagreeing with me. Haven't touched the Thunder after the first three portions. I gave away the Catch Spearmint.

It's funny, what I thought I would like isn't really what I do like. So I guess you really can't know until you try...

Tried the Nick & Johnny White Heat. Whatever. That's about all I can say about that.

However, I found an unexpected nugget of awesomeness: Granit! I did not expect this to be so good. I think I like it better than Ettan. I mean, if I took just the flavors of Ettan and Granit and compared them, I would have to say Ettan tastes better. But the whole experience - that goes to Granit.

Granit is lemony-pepper-salty-smoky. In a great way. It's simply brilliant! The lemon flavor is a background flavor and it tastes artificial, but a good artificial, like lemon drops. It works. It seems saltier than other snus that I've tried, and i like that, too. The overall flavor is mellow, but somehow it's "more there." That doesn't make any sense, but hey, I'm not a professional reviewer.

Granit is how I wanted snus to be. It promises to be a snus that I can get hooked on, which is what I want, to get hooked on something other than cigarettes. The whole experience with Granit feels substantial. The pouches are big, but comfy. I can feel it working. It's not refined, or subtle, or exotic, but just solid. The name is apt. Even the can is solid.

Oh, sure, I'm in the infatuation stage with it right now, and it could change, but I hope not.

One week after the order came in, I've now tried everything but the Göteborgs and the Thunder Berry, and at this point, I don't really want to try them. I'm burned out on experimenting at the moment. I just want to order a bunch of Granit and Jakobsson's and stick with those.

But I guess I have to finish all this stuff first.

Don't force the ones you don't like. Bag them, put them in the freezer, and try them again later. Once you have your tastes nailed down, you can pull the rejects out one at a time until they're gone. You may find you like them better than you do now.

Thanks for posting these reviews. I'm in the same stages of trying different things and ordered the Ettan White based on your review a several days ago and like it a lot. Good one to start the day off with.

My original thought was why did I order all of this crap but hey you never know what you're going to like. Unfortunately for me I had the opposite problem, most of the ones I thought I would like I really liked and the others I mostly hated. Still tastes change over time and I got through almost all of the initial order and a few grew on me although I don't think I would order them again.

Good advice. I've wrapped a bunch in cling wrap and put them in the freezer, just leaving enough out to last until my next order. Hopefully I'll like them better later. I just hate to waste anything.

Thanks for the help with the compose key thing, I've got it now and it's pretty handy.

Yeah, I was sort of surprised by Granit, too. I don't know what it is exactly about it, but it hits the spot for me. I do prefer the taste of Ettan by a little bit, but for some reason Granit feels more satisfying. It's sort of like when I was smoking RYO cigarettes, if I had a filtered cigarette, it just wouldn't satisfy as much as my RYOs did, even though the RYO were sometimes more harsh. Not to say Granit is harsh, because it's actually pretty mellow.

I still really like the Ettan. I'll be getting rolls of both in my next order.

But it's true, you can't really know based off other folks' reviews. And like you say, who knows how I'll feel six months from now.

If I were to give ratings to the snus I've tried so far:

                                Granit: 8.5 (out of 10)
                                Ettan OP, White: 8
                                Jakobsson's Classic Strong: 8
Jakobsson's Fläder: 7.5 (Love the taste, but it's pretty bitter to use as a regular snus.)
                                Grovsnus OP, White: 6
                                General OP, White: 6
                                Thunder Frosted Longer: 6
                                Oden's OP: 5.5
Nick & Johnny White Heat: 5
                                Catch Spearmint: 4
                                General Mint: 4
Skruf Tranbär: 3 (I tried, but I couldn't get into this at all. The more I used, the less I liked it.)
