If you just let it happen naturally, you won't even notice it. Just make sure you use snus as often as you can. And if a cigarettes is what you want, have it without another thought. As you mentioned earlier, the cigarettes just become less and less fun. And soon, you will find you would much rather reach for the snus.
But please get some extra sterks. will just make it so much easier. You will probably finds with the extra sterks that you are only wanting a cigarette a couple of times a day, and then even less.
But even after you "quit", smoke if that is what you want. even 3 years after quitting my very day smoking, I still have a cigarette once very month or two. In fact, that is one of the things I love most about snus is I can now smoke when I want, and just because I have that one, doesn't mean I will want a second. Now, for the first time in my life, I can smoke because I want one, not because I need one,
One last thing. You need to up your snus usage. Go for at least 12 a day, even more if you want. My first 2 1/2 years of snus usage, I probably used about 15 a day. Last few months, I have cut that in half. My need for nicotine is just not quite as strong as it once was, my body has adjusted. But just starting out, making the transition you are, over do it rather than under doing it. Will just make it that much easier.

Welcome to SnusOn. I tried quitting cold turkey when I first started snusing, but failed. Sage is right, the snus will eventually win over. Just slowly start replacing cigs for snus. For example, make the first cig of the day a first snus of the day. Once you remove the habit of smoking, you can quit pretty easily.

Yup, I agree, don't stress about the odd cig you have here and there, just let the snus take over gradually and use some sterks when you're cravings are high.
Took me about 2 years I think before I had totally irridicated the odd cig and after that I only really saw cigs as a nicotine delivery system if there's no snus around.

Originally posted by wangstayea, i'm making a habit of reaching for the snus before a cig. so far so good. i like the idea of going out once in a while and being able to have a cig with friends without having to worry omg i'm gonna start smoking a pack a day again...
this is great
Almost the only time I will now have that occasional cigarette is if I am with someone who is smoking. That bond that comes from sharing a smoke simply can't be replaced with snus. But as I said earlier, so what. I already have the nicotine I need form the snus, so no reason to have a 2nd if I don't want one. To me, that really is te greatest freedom that snus gives me.

All the advice above is great advice, especially about having a smoke when you just can't resist and not giving up because you "slipped." It's not AA or NA. It happened to me too, and I smoked a 1 to 1 1/2 packs per day for 37 year, and never a "Light" cigarette ever. In 2007 I got severe bacterial pneumonia, and still managed to choke down over 1/2 pack of Salems per day while I was sick.
The nicotine in Snus just seems so much cleaner and steadier. After a while, I found that cigs just seemed like such a "dirty high" that I didn't even want them anymore. One thing I would add though; when I first started using snus I had quite an upset stomach, mainly from gas. Eventually it went away, and now my gastrointestinal tract, which has always been problematic, is better than it's ever been. I actually lost weight since I found I didn't have to eat so much to keep my nervous stomach at bay, and I was able to run much farther with far less exertion than when smoking. Snus has been a lifesaver for me, and is far less brutal to your system than American Dip, which I used once to quit for awhile but which made me feel as bad as smoking.
Interstingly, I also find that NOT smoking enhances the buzz you get from alcohol. Everybody likes to smoke when they drink until they figure out that drinking is much less frenetic when you're not totally oxygen deprived from chain smoking. Also, the iron law of hangovers: 1/3 alchohol, 1/3 cigarettes and 1/3 lack of sleep. I haven't had a serious hangover since I quit smoking.

Only had a couple of big cravings here, but like others have said, they pass quickly enough. The advice about having some sterks around is a good idea too, they will take care of any strong craving.

i was off cigs for over a week. thinking about it, that initial withdrawl symptoms is most likely toxins being released and proccessed in the body. it goes by quickly, and snusing is great. have to admit, was in vegas for the last week and smoked a pack a day again for couple days. but now i'm back.. back on snus again and feeling great. fyi, just got my shipment of skruf stark. this stuff has really strong taste... but i think its worth it since i only need a couple a day to keep me going.

I'm gonna keep this simple, cigs have about 4,000 different chemicals in them. When you switch to snus you only bring the main addictive one with you, so out of the remaining 3,999 left some of them are probably addictive also. But in my opinion not as much as nicotine, so stick with it your body will clean itself out in short order.

Is certainly true in the case of e-cigs, which only delivery nicotine, but snus is tobacco, so my assumption was that it'd deliver most or all of the same stuff, just in a less damaging way.
I'm using e-cigs at the moment and they're not working for me. They're awesome devices and work as a full replacement for a lot of people, but for me they only work in the short term, then I get incredibly depressed/anxious/confused/weird feeling, until I smoke a real cigarette. So I figure nicotine isn't the problem and I need one of the numerous other psychoactive chemicals in cigarettes (like MAOIs). That's why I'm looking into trying snus, because I figure it'll be the complete replacement I'm looking for, but this post has me worried.
Does anyone know of any research on this?
