I just got back from my cleaning and check up today. A little gum rescission going on in the front but nothing really to worry about yet. I still would like to know what causes the gums to recede. I am thinking that if I switch to using purified snus like Oomph most of the time, this may go away. Anyhow, no bad news from the dentist and that's good news for me!

I asked the technician once when I was there, but I didn't get a good answer. I think it's just irritation that causes it, but I don't know the exact mechanism. I suspect that anything you wedge against your gums can cause recession, so I doubt the purified snus would help in that regard.

It can cause gum recession, and if you take poor care of your teeth, they could rot easier do to unenameled portions of tooth being exposed. Gum recession is very individual amongst users. Some don't get it at all, and some get a fair amount. I had a couple of spots that receded about 2mm, and then stabilized. As long as you take care of your teeth, you should be alright, and if you're snusing as opposed to smoking, you're doing your body a huge favor, recession considered.

Keep up with checkups no matter how good or bad your teeth are. If they are bad or you have a plaque buildup like myself then go 3 times a year. Some people might disagree but if you keep a portion/pris in too long it will affect you more then if you kept it in less.

So, I went to the dentish in 8th grade. I had 7 cavities that all got filled. For a few years before that I didn't brush my teeth until my breath offended ME, which was like every 2 months. I was a kid. Second time Was when my right incisor had a very obvious hole in it that kept growing- friends even pointed it out. Got it filled. I was 19 or so.
I haven't been since, simply because my teeth don't hurt or show any negative signs. but This thread reminded me that symptoms don't always come before problems. I have money, so there's no reason I shouldn't invest in my health a bit more. I'm 22 now, for reference.

I went for about 5 years after high school without going to the dentist. That was due to a butcher who yanked out a wisdom tooth. It was once I found a great dentist that I felt comfortable with when I was about your age and have gone back religiously ever since for about 25 years. Don't wait till it's too late to go and cost you tons of money. My dentist is thrilled since I quit smoking and after showing him my can of N&J and he looking at my gums he said he would recommend snus to his patients to quit smoking. Take care of your teeth because they are built to last if you do!Originally posted by deebocools View PostSo, I went to the dentish in 8th grade. I had 7 cavities that all got filled. yeah, I'd probably see a dentist since he's a doctor that "specializes" in teeth...or not, guess you could go see a podiatrist for your teeth, not sure what he could do for ya though, lolOriginally posted by Kandy View PostI have problem with my teeth, i often feel some pain in the roots
of my teeth, should i consult the dentist or not?
Now if you've just started using snus, and your gums are hurting...well, that's normal and after several weeks it will pass once your gums get used to having a portion lay against them all day long. But just to be safe...you might wanna call the podiatrist ;-)
