Swedish Match changed to formulation of their nicotine free snus because of that. They're also paying the dental bills of people affected. I'm guessing he already had some gum recession due to normal snus use and age. That left tooth surface without enamel exposed, and the sugars rotted his teeth.

They are trying to blame the nicotine free snus, the one based on corn fiber, not tobacco. They said the patient got 6 cavities in the first year after switching to nicotine free.

I doubt that the picture they used was the actual patient. They pick out some random file photo to dramatize the point they are trying to make. That is something I expect out of people like Tobacco Free Kids to scare people.

I still think is lack of oral hygiene. There's alot of people cramming their filthy pie holes with high sugary shit. And most will bush their sins away. I highly doubt that photo was the real person. But come on, floss and brush dude!

I bet that poor bastard can't eat **** all with them teeth. Think their infected as well.

I don't know. It looks to me like that's actually one of the patients. The photo comes from the same organization that found the problem. You don't go 62 years without teeth problems, then have your teeth rot out in 2 years without there being some outside cause.

You are absolutely right in this scenario. But I think that overall, while snus of course has to have some (however minor) negative effect of oral health, it is not nealy as bad as drinking a bunch of high fructose corn syrup and other shit all day.

I rarely ever eat sweets and drink mainly water, so not too worried about whatever minor effect snus has, it's worth it.

Just to clarify... This was from SMs old Onico formulation. It used corn fiber for the bulk which would convert to sugar in the mouth, essentially making a sugar plaster over the teeth. AFAIK, tobacco won't convert to sugar at all.

Thanks for the clarification. Sugar wall around the teeth.. I can see where they may have had a problem.
