I hereby declare that I am completely unaffiliated, nor do I stand to gain any advantage by this recommendation, but I have been using this for a couple of years now and it is really effective, so I can recommend that any snusser in need of help try OraMD:
Brushing with this product does NOT do a job of whitening, so regular trips to the hygienist are still required, but its deadly to gum disease bacteria.
Fatlip - Did Snus cause you some problems with your gums and this stopped them or helped with them?
I began using it to tackle problems caused by smoking, originally, but, moving to snus, I did find that white portions in particular seem very abrasive on the gums, so I kept going with the 'tooth oil' as I call it, and I have now switched to 'brown' portions exclusively and have no gum problems - so, this may seem inconclusive, but I would certainly suggest the oil to anyone with gum disease, however caused.
Chainsnuser - Thanks four detaild reply.I too couldn't imagine a life without Nictone when to me it has a use for just about every occasion in life - stress, depression, anxiety, relaxation, tiredness and/or where you really need to concentrate on a difficult task and just plain enjoyment. To summarise in your recommendations do you suggest using a mix of tobacco bits, portions and loose? I've never used loose. Would it be a good move to include that in my mix or to stick to portions and tobacco bits (bearing in mind my gum problems)? I did try the Oliver Twist chewing tobacco once from Northerner but found it gave me mouth ulcers. Maybe mixing the way you take your nicotine (eg Snus and tobacco bits) and where you place it is the key in that you alternate between stressing your mouth and gums and so not as much stress is put on particular places in your mouth?
Well, my personal experience is, that loose is easier on the gums, than even original portions. But the way, I use lössnus, is maybe a bit exceptional. I always poke the prillas with my tongue and push them against the lip, so my gums sometimes are even not in contact with the prilla. It's hard to describe. You surely must have an indifference to swallow snus-juice and ocassionaly even tobacco-pieces, if you do so.
Tobacco bits are indeed quite harsh. The only reason to use them, for me, is the nice taste, and the option, to put them in the lower lip/cheek. I use them about once a day, but sometimes only every second or third day and I really wouldn't want to go without tobacco-bits.
You should just try to find a way, you personally feel most comfortable with snus. Even the option, to put a portion in the cheek or lower lip, is worth a try, at least for a while. I did so, when I was a new snuser and my upper gums ached.
To give you a bit of hope: I don't have the best teeth and gums by nature and my former dentist told me almost exactly 19 years ago: "your teeth look terrible and your gums will pass away very soon, no matter how much you brush". Well, my teeth and gums are still there.
Chainsnuser - Well I laid off the Snus for about 2 weeks and my gums started to pinken up again. Trouble was though I felt dreadful without Nictoine (no surprises there I guess) I was not a very nice person to be around. Tried NRT gum and lozenges and as you said they didn't deliver enough Nictoine and they came with their own side effects anyway. I found they both made me feel nauseus and unsatisfied. The gum made my jaw ache and the lozenges dried my face and eyes out to the point my skin was starting to peel like I had been sunburnt! I gave into temptation and ordered some more General and am enjoying a portion right now. The 1st one after 2 weeks is indeed an experience. I think I'm going to go with using different upper and lower parts of my mouth for the Snus, cutting down to about 1/2 of what I used in a day (12-6 portions) and I ordered some tobacco bits to use now and again to give my gums a rest. I hope this works out better for me or I think I'll go mad!
12 portions a day are quite much, it means 12 times fresh salt and soda on your gums. Keeping the single portions longer is no problem, nicotine-wise, but once the salt is dissolved, they are much easier on the gums. Though I'm chainsnusing, I only use an average of circa 7-8 portions/prillas/tobacco-bits per day.

Thanks for that. I've often felt like keeping a portion in for an hour or so rather than the 1/2 hour Swedish Match say as is still seems satisfying and tasty beyond the 1/2 hour but I wondered whether the time you had them in might irritate your gums but if that's not the case I think I would be happy to keep one in for up to a couple of hours. Will see how it goes and let you know. Btw. Do you find Piccannel or Oliver Twist the best tobaccco bits? I've ordered a tin of each to try.
So far, I've only used Piccanell Original, Oliver Twist Original, and some german, traditional brands (which all taste nearly the same), made by Grimm & Triepel.
All three are regulars for me.
Piccanell Original has a nice and salty pure-tobacco-taste and a somewhat immediate nicotine-hit.
OT Original has a very intensive and smoky taste. The nicotine hits a bit slower.
Grimm & Triepel is much more fruity. The nicotine-delivery depends on how much you chew (respectively squeeze) the bits.
Oliver Twist wins for me, because of the extraordinary taste and durabilty, but Piccanell and Grimm & Triepel are real 'masterpieces' as well.
Using tobacco-bits surely requires some familiarisation, but after that, it's pure enjoyment.
After reading about the gum problems experienced by some users, I wondered if this bit of advice I picked up on another board might be of help. It does seem that the salt and soda in the snus can prove irritating to the gums; and as one user reported using up to 12 portions a day, that is a lot of salt to the gums! It has been suggested that "dipping" a portion snus, in cola, tea, coffee, even water, might dissolve some of the salt, making it less irritating. As for loose snus, I suppose one could borrow from Northeners website for making coca-cola snus and pour a favorite beverage over the loose snus in a suitable strainer, pressing out excess liquid, and getting a unique flavor in the bargain.
On another note, I was wondering if this board could help me with a problem I recently began experiencing. I have been using General White portion, wintergreen for several weeks now. While I enjoy it very much, the last couple of days I've noticed I break out in itchy hives in the later part of the day. I generally use three to four portions a day. The last time I had this type of reaction was when I used NRT gum, but that began on day one! This just started out of the blue, and the only thing I can think of is some type of nicotine reaction. Can anyone out there enlighten please?

Chainsnuser - I love those Piccanell Original tobacco bits. Great fast nicotine hit and tasty too. Some Oliver Twist originals arrived today too so I'll be trying those also later Seeing as you're in Germany I have to ask is proper German Holsten lager better than the UK made version of it? I assume so? I love our version of it and so I would imagine I would love the genuine article even more.
Unfortunately, I've never tried Holsten Lager/Pilsener, but I sometimes like to drink a Tuborg Pilsener, made in Germany, also from the Holsten-brewery. It tastes much better (for me) than the Danish "Tuborg Grøn".
At the moment, I'm enjoying a bottle of "Hövels" (made in Dortmund, where else? :wink When it comes to beer, I mostly stick with 4 or 5 favorites, with a clear bias for beers, that are brewed in my hometown.
I think I'll have to try Holsten, if I find it here. If it's great, I'll let you know!
Just wanted to say I've been using Peri-Gum for a few days (on the advice of a post on the forum) and my gums feel a lot better and don't look as red. I was a little dubious trying it with it being a herbal mouthwash and found it hard to beleive it could do anymore than antiseptic mouthwashes like Corsodyl but I'm pleasantly surprised. I hope things just keep on getting better.

Maybe you're allergic to something in it. Try a different brand and see if that helps.
