    Bleeding Gums?

I got my first order of snus in the mail less than 48 hours ago. And have been using snus portions almost constantly since (I've had MAYBE 3 smokes).

Just now I brushed my teeth and the gum above my front two (upper jaw) teeth is bleeding. Not profusely but still- blood, after less than 2 days of usage? Scaring me a little bit here.

Should I go back to smokes?

Snus may have exacerbated a existing condition. I'd get your mouth checked at a dentist. I don't believe the snus caused it, but made it more apparent.

    Edit:

I very much doubt that, I take very good care of my mouth, and my teeth in general- not to mention I have anxiety disorders, on of them being hypochondria and I visit the dentist, dermatologist, and MD on a regular basis. I have also never had a cavity, nor anything similar.

My guess? It's the paper on the portions, I've always had very sensitive skin- and my mouth is no exception.

I'm only 19 years old, the chances of me having some sort of chronic, dormant gum disease is fairly slim given my medical history.

You could try lös snus, or maybe move your portions around more. Smoking is bad for your mouth also, along with the other problems it brings. If snus really isn't working for you, you could try nasal snuff.

A hypochondriac who smokes? That's odd. I like it! 8)
Even the softest portion will be rough on your gums the first few times you use it, and if you brush vigorously your gums could already be extra-sensitive to the material.
Bleeding gums or not, I promise you snus is MUCH safer for your mouth than smoking. All the same, I'm sure a check-up is a good idea, just to be sure. I wouldn't sweat it, though. Here's a thread on the topic from another snuser:

          http://www.snuson.com/viewtopic.php?t=5092

Apparently after moving the portion to a different site, the issue cleared up

          Hope this helps!

Snus has been doing exactly what I wanted it to do. The idea of loose makes me sick- the slimyness of portions is already close to my gag reflex whenever it slides out of my upper lip.

I wanted a less enjoyable nicotine delivery method that would be less harmful- and would a safer fallback point when quitting fails. That's what it's been so far. My lungs feel better- for sure, and I've already got more stamina when exercising as I discovered this morning.

So no, I'm not going to stop snusing- it is working for me, I guess I should just hope that my gums get used to that rough material :?

And screw using any sort of nasal stuff. I don't even want to hear about it. My nose is for filtering air, and for smelling. That's it.

And the mouth is for eating food, not putting tobacco in it.

when i first started snusing my gums also bled a little for the first few days it the salt in the snus it will take a week or two for your body to get used to the salt then you will be fine also do some reading in to nasal snuff you will finds its safer still than snus  just dont rule it out

Ok, thanks "Captain Obvious". I was aching for a lecture in biology- no, really.

The mouth is only for eating food, drinking, and tasting. But my mouth is for whatever I want it for.

Jesus christ. Just had to be a smartass eh?

When I first started it felt like a harsh burn on my gums and lip. I started switching sides using the flap of skin in the middle as a divider and my gums and lip have toughened up a bit. I havent noticed any bleeding, just a slight bit tender after using but it goes away.

On a side note to compare with dip, I was using Skoal edge wintergreen a month ago and I kept putting it in the same place in my mouth. I used it 3-4 times in a day and the last one hurt like hell. I checked my gum and there was a small cut in it and a very small hard white spot on my lip where the dip was. It all healed and went away but snus has never done that to me.

Had the same problem - fixed it with two weeks of Corsodyl and chucking Skruf in the bin. I have a suspicion that it was Skruf that started it off. No other snus has given me problems. I get the odd tiny bit of blood on the brush but nothing to worry about as I'd rather have a gum problem than a lung cancer problem.

You may brush too hard to compensate for your snus usage, I've heard of a lot of people here doing that. Especially if you're a hypochondriac, you may be doing it subconciously.
