    Snus and hair loss?

Well, I've fully replaced cigarettes with snus for about 10 weeks now. I've cheated twice and smoked cigarettes and really felt horrible (I'm talking physically) afterwards. It's weird how you don't notice how bad cigarettes make you feel until you quit.

Anyway, Besides that... I'm working a new job with a lot of hours...also early hours... So I've been really loading up on the caffeine as well. It's not particularly stressful though and I still manage to sleep 7 hours a night (don't do much else besides work and sleep obviously haah).

I've noticed the past two to three weeks A LOT of my hair falling out. like...it went from not coming out to covering my sink...and if i run my hand through it quite a bit is left there. I'm 27 btw and believe it or not a few years ago when I did chemo... I didn't even loose my hair. So... this is highly unusual.

Anyway I looked up nicotine and hair loss.. and I came back with A LOT of forum hits and two studies talking about hair loss with the nicotine Gum.
Also quite a bit of hair loss related stuff with copious caffeine usage.

Seeing as how not much has changed in my lifestyle other than caf and nic... (TBH I do get (but enjoy) a lot more nic from snus than my smoking habbit) and its been about 10 weeks of use... 2-3 weeks of problems... I'm kind of wondering if Snus and coffee are to blame.

    If so I'm sad indeed.
Maybe it will be motivation to quit snus as well.
We'll see. I'm pretty sure I dont have any other health problems going on, but I may visit the doctor next week just to make sure.

    Any thoughts on this?

Hair-loss is a common symptom of syphilis.

I wonder if syphilis can be advanced by snus use.

    Premium Parrots certainly knows more!

    Cheers!

BTW, no pun intended to anyone!

I've read that some hair loss can be expected once you stop smoking. It's part of the re-birth cycle (doesn't that sound so gay?) our bodies go through while they rid themselves of all the toxins that have accumulated for however long. I think a lot of times nicotine gum or the patch gets the rap while in all actuality it would happen regardless.

I have an unwelcome suggestion. maybe you're coincedentally going bald. It's certainly not impossible, some people are completely bald by their early 20's

Jokes aside my own hairline has receded pretty fast in the last two years. It isn't frightening but noticeable.

Maybe we're heading towards a society of non smoking, healthy baldheads, if superdevils infos are right.

            Cheers!

This is interesting. I always knew I'd be bald someday (dad is bald, mom's dad was bald...)... but:

I only started losing my hair when I went to basic training and had to quit smoking for about 4 months. After coming home, I tried to grow my hair back to normal, and found that a lot of it wasn't coming back.

I just shave my head and keep a goatee to even things out...

I have a 50/50 shot at going bald and still can't grow a full beard at the age of almost 22. Things could be worse

I believe baldness is an inherited genetic trait. Are you related to anyone who is bald? If so, I wouldn't worry about it. Get some rogaine or a fine toupee. I wear a shaved head myself, and I'm not naturally bald, go figure.

I started going bald at 19. No joke. Didn't notice at the time, even tho I was already buzzing my own head once a week with hair clippers, but I see it in pictures. By the time it became noticeable, at 21, I stopped using attachments on the clippers, and by 26 or so I was down to a razor. Been shaving it ever since (30 now). It sucked at first, as a blow to self-esteem and all that, and if you are truly balding at a young age, I feel you. But trust me that you'll get over it pretty quick. Wear it proud, Yul Brynner style. Or, if Rogaine and that shit works, start latherin'! I never bothered to look into it, no regrets.

Plus with no hair at all, you can shower, get dressed, and out the door in about 6 minutes.

I have noticed hair loss right in front over the past year but it could be a lot of things. Giving up smoking has been the most stressful thing I have ever done and on top of a very stressful year. This also had me thinking about nicotine blood count and some studies that say when you snus the nicotine lingers stronger and longer. The study was about nicotine cutting off oxygen to the scalp. I consider myself a light snusser but I use to smoke about half a pack most days and weekends close to a pack a day. My nicotine blood count had to be stronger and steadier then now so I would say stress is the main culprit.

Well went to the docs. Scalp and hair are healthy...
Getting a blood test for thyroid and hormone levels done saturday

Did I mention my scalp tingles a lot when I use snus.
I cant stop!... and I dont want to lol

Im going to use gum for a while I think since I can reduce the nicotine level to just enough to curb the craving by biting it less...

rather then just trying to take a bag out...and also wasting bags (i hate putting an old snus back in even if i know its not spent)

hopefully 3 weeks or so of the gum and a blood test will give me more insight.

Yeah I don't think I'm just "losing my hair"

                        because its ...like... very significant

maybe it is from not smoking

I've also stopped smoking pot (well in favor of a vapo) so my lungs are all sorts of messed up and unhappy...and have been pretty bad for a few months here..wish i had the vape when i was on chemo

You can type in ANY drug and hair loss on google, and there will be some study linking the two. Its your genetics, not the snus, nor is it your morning coffee, or your hair gel.

Yah my hairline's been receeding as well over the last 2 years. Not sure why, probably just stress. But I would be very dissapointed if nicotene had anything to do with it.
