I have gum recession as well. When I started I didn't take quite such good care of my teeth as I do now, and have some staining where the recession is, not too bad, but noticable to me.

I noticed some recession years ago from smoking in one spot. It hasn't become any worse with snus. I think most of it could be attributed to two things. 1. we didn't check before snus and if you look for something hard enough it will appear. 2. many people brush too many times a day too hard when using snus.

I have recession, bad in certain areas, and it got worse after I started using snus a year ago. Have had two gum surgeries (grafting) over the winter and likely will have two more. Although it got worse after I started using snus I believe it would have happened anyways, have a family history of it. Periodontist told me to be sure to brush and floss 2x/day, not much else I can do. He does not believe using any brand of mouthwash will help.
Years ago your teeth would just fall out, now a periodontist can repair the damage, it is not irreversible.

I recently quit oral tobacco because of my gum concerns. I did have some slight issue before I did oral tobacco, but I believe it's use further aggravates it, and I just don't want the mental stress of thinking it will get worse and I'll lose my teeth. To me, it's the number one bad aspect of oral tobacco, actually, I think having anything on your gums like that, be it a folded napkin or coffee grounds would have the same effect, so it's tobacco per se, just the act of it rubbing on your gums. Of course this is individual, some may not have any gum weaknesses at all.

I can bet ya it has to do with brushing. I used a manual toothbrush for a very long time, and just the feel of the brush I always used quite a bit of pressure, because it never felt like it was doing much if I went soft with it. Well,now I have gum recession, I am only 20 as well. if I take my nail, and kind scrape a bit where my gums are receded, there is even root pain. And I really have never been into sweets or soda or anything. At least not for about 5 or 6 years.
This can save your gums, GET A SONICARE TOOTHBRUSH!. I am telling you, it WILL be a worthy investment. Make sure its sonicare. I BARELY press at all, barely use any pressure, and my teeth feel so smooth afterwards. Even when I floss, barely anything comes out. I got mine for about 70 bucks. Heads I change about once every 5 months. Because so little pressure is needed in order to feel like your brushing is working.

I have gum recession that I thought was caused by smoking as it seemed to come on after I had quit , but I learned from my dentist that it was caused by grinding my teeth while I sleep , I have got a night guard now to stop this and purchased a waterpik and a sonicare toothbrush to make sure everything is tip top clean in my mouth .
