Something doesn't seem quite right about this. I am assuming these are only "diagnosed" cases. The other 1,000 cases per 100,000 people are not diagnosed as they never see a dentist. We are talking about the UK here...

Actually the UK does have a very good state-subsidised dental service in most areas.

There is a very big difference between the "rent-a-smile" you can buy through very expensive orthodontic treatment that it seems Americans believe is necessary to "get on in life" and good oral hygiene.

AFAIK as you get older you can expect your gums to recede somewhat.

But its certainly possible you may have an advanced form of gum disease.
