    snus and fitness

OK I was trying to put a post on the snus and fitness thread but for some reason, it limits your posts to 1000 characters. Because of this, I am going to stick my post on a normal thread for the snus and fitness member to read. Please see Frosted if you are interested in joining this group. Thanks!

OK I finally started really working out a little over a month ago and the results have been fantastic. I have dropped about 20 lbs and my blood pressure has dropped as well. I joined a gym with the goal of being able to jog for 3 miles on the treadmill within 3 months. Guess what? I am already there! I usually do 3 miles about 4 times a week and then finish off with a 4 to 5 mile jog on Friday. I am really slow right now and averaging about a 13 minute mile but I know speed will come with time. I also walk for an additional 30 minutes a day during my breaks at work. If I am not in the mood to jog, I will use an elliptical for 40 minutes. My next goal is to get to 3 miles within 30 minutes and add in some weight training. I have also switched from a vegetarian to a vegan diet most of the time and load up on fruits and veggies daily. My favorite snack is brussel sprouts with soy sauce or sliced tomatoes with salt and loads of cayenne pepper. The first 2 weeks were very hard but the results are paying off quickly. I feel amazing now compared to 2 months ago. My inspiration to start all of this was a movie called "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead". This guy named Joe Cross goes on a juice diet with some amazing results. I tried the juice diet for 3 days but got sick of it but the movie definitely motivated me to try and get healthy. Please watch the movie if you can. It just might change your life and it is one of the best movies I have ever seen!

I should also mention as an inspiration PP's heart to heart conversations with me about health.

The gym is the only thing keeping me alive. Good for you, lots of fruits is a great way to go along with hummus. 3 years now of snus and exercise after open heart surgery. If I can do it , anybody can. And enjoy that healthy feeling, it is your reward!

Awesome man. I always come up with some lame ass reason not to go out and exercise. I have a wedding to go to in August and I want to lose a few pounds for that.

I know its really easy to do but something always keeps me from doing it.

38 years old + high stress job + over weight + family history of HBP = disaster waiting to happen within 10 years

Bearpig and I watched that movie maybe a month ago. Been juicing daily for a couple weeks now. Feel great! We have been progressing into better diet for years. I'm even pretty much off GMO at this point! Love hearing the health success stories. Just like the quitting smokes stories.

That's awesome GoVegan. I too have been working out. I started doing P90X about two weeks ago, and I've lost about 12lbs, but more than that I'm starting to look like I did several years ago. I'm getting too old to not do some regimented exercise program. Also, if you've thought about doing P90X and didn't because you thought it was a gimmick...it's fo real people! I guarantee that if you do this program for 90 days, you'll be in the best shape of your life, lol

I'm going to check out that movie GoVegan...thanks and keep up the good work bro ;-)

I am going to recommend people serious about getting into shape look into HIT (High Intensity Training). When it comes to muscle building results it really is the best way. However as I say that I must stress it may not be for everyone. Any heart or breathing issues or if you are severely over weight it may not be the best place to start. Always consult with your doctor before making drastic lifestyle changes.

Cardiovascular work is the only way imo and experience. 20 minutes at a time of running is more than sufficient and no more than 3 times a week.
If your joints are bad you're pretty much frigged for good cardio but if your joints are bad they might be able to manage cycling.

Just recently I've been getting knee problems - getting up from sitting on the floor. I put it down to getting up with kit on in the army along with all the high impact stuff.

I do run around a lot with the kids - really running, as my 4.5 year old is pretty fast. Apart from that I've settled on 40 power push ups and 50 sit ups every day. That does me.
But diet? Pizzas, fish and chips, fry ups etc etc.

Cardio alone won't build muscle, more muscle mass improves metabolism carrying on calorie burn far after the exercise as the muscles rebuild themselves. Strength training also helps maintain bone strength. It is a simple fact that any successful and balanced workout routine needs strength training and HIT for those who can safely do it leads to the most efficient results.

Those guys were really in bad shape and the juicing/veganism really did work for them but I wonder if it is sustainable diet??

Have you seen FATHEAD?? THis guy did a 30 day Mcdonalds binge also but with a twist on leaving out carbs and challenging the LOW-FAT crowd.

Neither do I. Last I checked reading said magazine did nothing for fitness...

I recently got the insanity workout, aka p90x, I am just about to start it. Looks pretty good, pretty much it's all just cross training type stuff you can do in a smaller oom if you wanted to. Its diet plan is pretty much "Eat 5 times a day, small meals, carbs more towards the morning and successively less with each meal".

I have high blood sugar now apparently and am on BP medication, so when i try to exercise I feel like I am having a heart attack, since the betablockers/BP meds sort of act like a regulator on your heart and own't let it go over a certain speed. Kinda makes it hard to exercise.

Edit; What is this "juicing" thing you all are talking about? The issue Ihave with crash diets, or switching to veganism, is that it's not really sustainable imo. Do you plan to never eat a normal meal again? I just odn't see that working for me. But what exactly is juicing?

Weight loss is calories in < calories out. It is that simple, no 5 times a day, carbs at the hour of venus, and q666yzp juice and jumping jack regimen will change the basic science, they just change your net worth...

                              Or for the even simpler...

put the bag of chips down and get off the f***ing couch...
