SNUS made me gain weight. It made me lethargic. I have however recently shed it and more after three years. Radical diet change and forcing myself to walk/gym 2-3 times a week during lunch breaks.
As a smoker I was always getting up to go smoke and with snus I was always sitting down. Although I did feel healthier off the bat lung wise I was still gaining.

Right now I am working out a minimum of 6 times a week. It is a pain in the ass. It really is. The only things motivating me are my goal (to compete in a triathlon) and the memory of before smoking and getting injured, as a high school athlete who was very fit. You need to make the decision and have the motivation to be active, otherwise all you are left with is the necessity to be active, which is often less for most people in modern society. You can choose to go out and see an afternoon matinee and eat a bucket of popcorn, or you can choose to go to a state park and take a several mile hike. Those choices make the difference.
Snus did one thing in all this for me, it is allowing my lungs to heal and no further damage to them so that I can work on the cardio aspect of my training, that is it.

Over the 5 years at my desk I gained 30-35 pounds like nothing. It was affecting my health and mental state. I have made some serious changes and in six months I weigh less then when I first started this job.
The last three years however I could literally see myself growing while using snus.
The majority here seem to lose weight because they want to exercise more but in my case it was the opposite.
Of course it is not healthier to smoke but it was keeping my weight in check more then snus.

Ok another motivation, live longer to be with my children and maybe one day grandchildren, and enjoy my pension for as long as I can. I plan and am working towards early retirement, got a ways to go as I am only 34 but planning now and if I stay here I will be eligible for full pension at 56. The men in my family haven't traditionally lived long. Combination of diabetes (both types) and alcoholism and smoking. My grandfather though, still active and independent at 92, but he has always been the picture of clean living. Doesn't smoke, drink, was military then a minister. Heck when you survive Omaha Beach on D-day not sure what can kill you. So now I am trying to be that picture of clean living as well.

Let me add other office type stuff I do to make work more of a work out, well not sweat pouring workout, but get up and move around a bit more. First of all I never take the elevator in the building, always stairs, and up until the achilies injury I sprint them every time I take them. I will be back to sprinting them in a week. Also I go fill up my water cup often, no soda in here. I have one travel cup of coffee at home or I bring it in in a thermos, no cream or sugar. Anyway I get water often, on another floor. Also I will use the bathroom on a different floor sometimes, adds more stairs to the day. I make a point of going to see people in person than just emails and phone calls. Just to mix it up and get moving. I am a computer programmer and have no problem for e-communication and in fact usually prefer it but it is not very mobile no matter how fast I type.
Also just because you don't smoke does not mean you cannot take a smoke break. Pop in a portion and go take a walk out side. Good for the body, and heck in most work force environments good for the soul. In a job I used to have I used to spend my lunch break roller blading in the parking lot. I did lots of non-conventional breaks to "smoke" less at that job by adding those activities. We have a pseudo chess club in the building that got together at breaks to play speed chess or had games over lunch. The thinking in chess actually burns a lot of calories, it is true. The place I work now, well too many are too boring for such activities so oh well. I tried to get even one chess game going and no luck.

After reading all these answers i still dont know what i should believe in.
But, as long as the hockey star Alexander Ovechkin is snusing, then i belive it dosent hurt your condition.
I will keep using snus until one very smart man says that it will hurt your condition/stamina over time. im 18. ( and i dont use snus before or in a hockey game)

The blood pressure raise can make your heart go faster than needed when doing sports, and cause a slight stamina lowering (from my experience) - but can at the same time give you more energy and stamina. But to avoid this, if you feel like it has a negative effect, don't use snus whilst exercising or working out. Use one before and one after instead.
And by the way, almost all Swedish hockey and socker players use snus. Lots of hockey players have a snus in while playing even. Don't be worried!
I actually quit snusing half-a-year ago to see what it was like (for two months), and I felt like I had more stamina on walks, but not on runs. The difference there is that I often have a snus in while walking (therefore a little worse stamina), but not while running. So spit out your snus before exercise and it's OK!

I'm no athlete, but I am a gym rat who works out regularly (bodybuilding and cardio) and do other physical activities like skateboarding. I spend many, many hours at a desk, but I manage to get in some kind of physical activity--usually strenuous--almost every day. I have smoked a pipe (no inhaling) for 23 years and taken snus for over 4 years. I just had a physical and checked out perfectly on everything, including heart and lung function. I do not feel that my snus use (or pipe smoking) has had any negative effect on my ability to exercise, energy level, or overall fitness--I'm a lot more active and fit than most people around my age that I know, most of whom don't use tobacco in any form on a regular basis. (Granted, it has been many years since I have been tobacco-free, so I don't have much to compare it with. But there was no negative effect in going from only pipe smoking to also using snus. Also, none of this applies to cigarette smoking--I was never a cigarette smoker (I've smoked a handful in my life, but never as a regular habit), pipe and snus are my only regular forms of tobacco use.) I do think that my tobacco use has helped me maintain my weight as I get older--partly because of the effects of the nicotine and partly because if I'm taking snus or smoking a pipe I'm not snacking on junk food.

Baseball players may not be required to engage in a lot of aerobic activity but they essay plenty of short-lived bursts of speed and activity which could explain why dip or chew doesn't much affect their performance. Also as we know good Saint Nic does help clear, defog, and focus the ol' grey matter so it makes a certain sense in baseball if not in too many other pro sports. I'm thinking golfers would definitely benefit. Snus for sure for the links hound--hawking big brown messy expectorations on the greens would likely be considered fairly bad form.
