Hmm, hate to sound mean, but they sound like a bunch of self-important holier-than-thou douchebags. The problem with total abstinence from everything is that not only is it not really possible for someone with an addictive nature, it leads to incredible guilt when someone "slips" and has a smoke (or whatever it may be) and that guilt leads to using that substance or behavior or whatever the addiction is to the absolute extreme. It's the reason why someone can say they quit drinking on their own can later have a beer or glass of wine and then put it away again while a former A.A. member, if he/she goofs up and has a beer goes on a 6 week binge and nearly dies...the guilt ant the abstinence or nothing mantra drives them to it.
Me, I see nothing really wrong with my MAOI/nicotine addiction so long as I get it in a fairly harmless form (which for me is snus and e-cigs) and I am not harming anyone else. If it wasn't nicotine it would be something else probably, like booze, religion or 12 step meetings.
Oh ya, and self important holier than thou douchebags really piss me off, and I don't like being angry...Comment
