Newb question: Do you spit or swallow swedish snus juice?

    Hey all,

I've done some searching in other threads but wasn't really able to find a solid answer. I've given up cigs and I've been chewing Red Man 'til my very first order of snus arrives from Sweden. Obviously i've been spitting the juice. When my order gets here and I really start snussing what do some of you recommend for dealing with the juice....to spit or not to spit, that is my question.

Thanks for helping out a Newb.

No need to spit. Snus does not create as much juice as american dip or redman chew. That's really the best part about snus is that no one has to know you have it in since you don't have to spit (or walk around with a huge chaw in your lip).

Anyways, don't worry about spitting. you'll see when you get it. When you first try it, it seems to juice a little more, but still it should never be enough to spit. The small amount of juice created is easy to gut, and it doesn't get you all spun out because the PH level of your stomach neutralizes the nicotene and therefore doesn't absorb if swallowed.

You don't need to spit with swedish snus, there's not really any juice in it per se like with dip. Putting the snus in your upper lip just a little bit off the center of your mouth is the easiest place to hold it without spitting. It might take a while to get the hang of it took me a few cans to figure it out.

          Right on,

Looking forward to being able to swallow this stuff as opposed to what I've been dealing with this Red Man stuff. .......empty juice bottles ,coffee cups, etc. full of brown gnarly spit. My poor wife will be relieved too as she has had the pleasure of finding a few of these little 'presents' at a few locations.....the home office, the car. "Sh1t, sorry hun".

Also, I've been getting head-aches from what I believe to be dehydration........all that spit that is normally consumed ends up elsewhere. Trying to drink water to off-set this crappy side-effect but i don't always catch it in time. The result has been a pretty good thumpin' in the head. Bring on the swallowable Swedish snuss!!

I started dip when I was in the army, and the biggest problem I had was the dehydration. I mean I would dip like non-stop, and as a result I was constantly dehydrated. Then add to that the fact i'm out working in the sun and it was just murder. I almost became a heat casualty out in the field a few times and it almost surely had to do with my dipping. With snus I don't have that issue. It makes your mouth a bit dry after your done, but you don't lose a quart of water every time you snus lol.

/Hurray for no more dip-cups all over the damn place!

And welcome to the forum PinkLungs!

There you go pinklungs, you nailed it. While the juice is fine to swallow, I'm not particularly fond of sitting there gulping on a particular juicy portion, so I always drink something when I snus. I drink tons of water as it is, but since snusing my water intake has probably doubled, and I attribute that both to my desire for a beverage while snusing and also possibly the extra salt intake. Also, for what it's worth, everyone is different. When I first started I felt the need to spit a lot sometimes, other times not at all. I still spit everyone in a while if I'm outside or whatever and it's getting real juicy on me and I don't have a drink with which to wash it down. But either way, there is no wrong way, so do what's comfortable and you will adjust to anything that comes your way with snus.

Really? Damn, my portions never juice dude. I've literally never spit one time ever, though sometimes if I have 2 portions in it can get a wee bit juicy. I can't drink while I snus because that moistens the portions and causes it to juice for me. I dunno, I guess everyone's different, but compared to American it may as well be juiceless. You can actually sit and have a conversation with someone without having to spit on the ground every 5 seconds. (Unless your in Alabama or something, in which case your a weirdo if you don't spit every 5 seconds)

                  Excellent! great responses.

Another huge bonus about snus that I can foresee is the convenience....at movie, on a flight somewhere, etc. This stuff will be just like having a piece of gum. So cool.
                  Thanks again guys.

If you upper lip snus... (which is normally how it's done) .. there's hardly any juice..... especially with los... portions generate more juice...

I sometimes have the los in my down lip and it generates a lot more juice .... half of it I spit it out :-)

Not many people lower lip the loose snus... I like it ... :-)

Although I thought it a bit goofy when the guy on 60 minutes was doing it, I normally have a Northerner portion in whenever I am in the gym...

Movies are cool too - I used to hate going to movies because after 2 hours I'd be freaking out for a smoke...
No doubt. Luckily i had a gym put in on the basement floor, so we can stay home for that but those nasty bottles of spit down there will not be missed!!

Snus is safe to swallow, since it does not contain smoke particles that are irritating to the digestive tract; the fermentation process eliminates both carcinogens and irritants.

I would refute this and say that the pasteurization process eliminates most carcinogens and irritants. It is the fermentation process in American dip/chew that contributes carcinogens to the tobacco.

Thanks for clarifying that as I am currently gnawing on some Red Man......can't wait 'til the safer product from Sweden arrives.
