Sore tongue?

I just started using snus and have been using Ettan for about 3 1/2 weeks now. My tongue has some pretty big red sores, is this normal from the salt or ph? I used to dip for 25+ years but have been off it for a few years now.

I've gotten minor sores on my tongue, and I think it's a combination of the salt, and wear from the edges of my teeth due to playing with the pris a lot. If that isn't the case for you, you might be having a bit of a reaction to the smoke flavoring. I believe it affects some people negatively, but that's just a distant memory, and may not even be correct. If it keeps up, try a snus that doesn't have smoke added. A V2 or Gotland product would be a good choice. I don't think anything in their portfolios has smoke in it.

I also had some gum, cheek, and tongue abnormalities for the first month that I started snus. This even after being an occasional dipper for 7 or 8 years. I developed a snus lesion within a week, but this was before I discovered the importance of switching sides. The mouth issues will diminish over time, but one thing I have observed is that any time I use oral tobacco regularly, I develop more cheek sores/canker sores or inflamed taste buds, etc...

The bottom line is that most snus lesions have been proven to be not pre-cancerous and heal completely within 2 weeks of quitting snus. Enjoy the journey, and rely on the knowledge on this forum. If you are ever seriously worried about your health, see your physician.

Never had any sores whatsoever in my mouth/tongue or anywhere in my oral cavity...

I would quit using snus right away if I did.

What throws up a red flag for me is the 25 years of dip. I would definately go to a doctor, and at least rule out oral cancer. Don't screw around, if it is, you want to be treated as soon as possible. The sooner its caught, the better your chances.

Other than that, if its just a snus lesion, some people get them, though I never have, and like said above - I would probably quit immediately.

I'd probably get it checked out too...or I wouldn't be allowed to do things with the carpet...and I love the carpet.

I use to get some irritation gum line/tongue switched to Northerner Wintergreen and it went away. Call me a lightweight but I like the nic hit, taste, no drip, discreetness and comfort of this little puppy.

When I first started I felt burning on the sides of tongue with those red tastebuds, but it was probably just the nicotine poison tap getting adapted. After a couple of weeks it went away. I have also developed the white mushroom tastebuds on the tip of my tongue and blamed it on occassional longcut use but I think it was actually just from hot food.

Welcome! Hope the soreness has gone away. It did take me some time to get used to snus maybe a couple weeks to a month. Everything has been fine since then. Good luck!
