Are there no movies worth watching

Is it just me or has anyone noticed there's nothing out that they even desire to watch. I like watching movies but there's absolutely nothing out either for rental or dvd. I think the last movie I watched was Kickass and before that shutter island and the crazies like a three months. Dinner for Schmucks looks ok I might watch that and many will disagree with me. Don't they normally make movies people like to watch during summer?

    Walking Tall

Walking Tall is a 1973 semi-biopic of Sheriff Buford Pusser, a former professional wrestler-turned-lawman in McNairy County, Tennessee. It starred Joe Don Baker as Pusser. The film was directed by Phil Karlson.

    Sequels

The original Walking Tall was a hit, but the sequels, Walking Tall Part 2 (1975), and Walking Tall: Final Chapter (1977), both starring Bo Svenson, were far less profitable.

I heard Inception is really good.

I mostly watch independent and foreign films because Hollywood has been putting out a bunch of crap for the last five years or so.

A big fan of the Sundance films myself....as long as it's not a film with a guy sitting on the sidewalk watching cars go by for an hour and a half.

I have heard that most of the movies out have been pretty good, but I've only seen a couple.

I like silent films. Buster Keaton's pretty funny. You can find free downloads here...

I'm a big documentary guy. Gasland is a good one to check out that goes in depth about the process America has started to use to extract Natural Gas. It's on HBO on demand right now. Same can be said for Lucky that interviews lottery winners and shows the effects winning has had on them.

I watch a lot of cartoons and kid movies. I have kids and we will watch them together (but I'd still watch cartoons if I didn't have kids). I haven't seen a movie that wasn't rated *G in about six months. The last movie I saw in the theater was the Dark Knight. Nothing since that made me want to go spend the money. I almost went to see the A-Team, but couldn't bring myself to go. I'll wait for it to hit the $3 bargain bin at Wally World.

*Porn does not count as movies, as I watch a fair share of that.

Fixed. That's pretty much all I'm watching too. Hollywood puts out maybe one film every five years I feel compelled to see. Other than that, I get more entertainment buying DVDs of foreign films or occasionally stumbling into a small independent theatre in the East Village.

Actually, just like you jwalker, the last recent movie i have seen is Kickass. What did you think of it? I really enjoyed it although i need to watch it again. What other movie has a child cutting off limbs with a katana??

There haven't really been many recent movies i want to see, they all seem to be the same general story line just presented in a slightly different way. I hate the predictability of modern mainstream cinema. Most of the films i watch are 'older'. What is your taste in movies? I can't really help with current selections for renting and such, but i should be able to help somewhat if you aren't opposed to 'older' movies, foreign films (subtitles), etc.

A few of my favorites are: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Naked Lunch, Man Bites Dog, and Two Lane Blacktop.

Mirror Mask, and Pan's Labyrinth are both good, and not really mainstream.

I liked Kickass, it's kind of disturbing but the action is definitely entertaining. It's nice to see a knife throw to the neck and some shooting with headshots in the same movie. Not a great work of art but watchable. I might see Inception since I loved Law Abiding Citizen and Toy story 3 came out and I heard it was good, but I remember there used to be like 10-12 movies people would want to see at least that a 14-18yo kid wanted to see stuff like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Indiana Jones, LOTR, stuff like that not great works like Saving Private Ryan, Casablanca, Gone With the wind etc. but movies that were fun to watch. A lot of movies make you feel like you have to work to watch them. I can't remember the last war or action movie and comedies are getting less funny and using the same stuff. When did you see something better than Happy Gilmore or Christmas vacation. There has been stuff like Twilight I guess though and popular movies but not stuff guys would like. The studios make trailers so that people don't even want to watch stuff.

lx; i enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth definitely a good movie. Never heard of Mirror Mask but will check it out soon.

jwalker, i do have somewhat mixed feelings with kickass, mostly favorable right now, but thats only going on one viewing. I was just happy to see something different from the normal movies being produced now. I have yet to see Toy Story 3 but have loved the first two. Can't wait to see the third.

                              Edit: spelling....
