This whole thing has been very informative as to the rights and privileges of the internet forum in modern society. I have been taking notes, and I will be wiping my ass with them later.

I like snuson because it is a forum that has (generally) been free of annoying jobless winos with nothing better to do than pick on other members. It is a place where people come together to shoot the shit and chew baccer. There is a courtesy to the forum and there are no silly forum games being played. You do not have to ignore posters because you want them to go away, and you especially do not get left out in the cold when you are being berated beyond every realm of meaningful or productive discourse. This is why I think it is important for people to speak up against Joe's unnecessary and unwarranted abuse of the OP.

I did "pick" a fight with ol' dude but it was not my intent with my original reply to him. You did a good job standing up for your friend, that shows loyalty, I like it.

BTW, its not like I am a Joe groupie.... I am just not the kind of guy to sit there and let one guy get stomped, I guess I should reserve this trait exclusively for the real world.

I have read so much how the Russians were really the worst of the bunch during WW2, and even some US Generals said we should have allied with the Germans and fought the USSR. Maybe that would have been best.

Little rusty on my Latvian history but when the Russians did come (not happily invited) they came in raping and pillaging. Then taking all opposition like police, politicians and anybody with discontent to the work camps and forced many into the army. My grandparents had family who ended up in camps and also were executed. When the Germans came they offered help in food, medical care and justice for what the Russians did. They created the volunteer ss legions to fight the Russians. The Germans wanted Russia not the baltics and the hope was to get the Russians/Germans out and create a independent Latvia. When you see the Latvian SS memorial march they are remembering the fight against the Communists and a free Latvia, not celebrating being part of Germany or Nazism.
Russia will never admit to the Holocausts it inflicted on all of eastern europe and also does everything in it's power not to turn over any war criminals. They use the line of we defeated the most evil empire of the world the Nazis and should be viewed as heroes not war criminals. The occupation by the Communists lasted til the early 90's. There was a rebel force of insurgents that lasted into the 50's after WW2.
Since Latvia became free there are still many Russians living there and it has been a struggle for them because to save what was left of the culture Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania decided to enact some strong laws with citizenship and language. It has worked and especially in Estonia. Where once a population was forced to speak Russian now the kids speak English as a second language.
