    Damn Viewsonic Quality

I had one of Viewsonics old CRT 19 monitors and used it for (10?) years so when I switched to LCD I chose Viewsonic. The 1st one I got 1 1/2 years 24/7 use before it crapped out. Not a big deal. I figured out it was easily fixable but didn't want to do without a monitor so I bought another Viewsonic LCD back in December figuring I'd get around to fix the 1st one and that way I'd have a backup.

Well wouldn't you know, yesterday the new Viewsonic crapped out after only 6 months and I hadn't gotten around to fixing the first one yet. Between the 2, I was able to borrow capacitors from the older monitor to fix the burned out capacitors on the newer monitor. I'm back in business.

What got me was the newer monitor had 5 capacitors of the same value - 470mfd 25v - between the 5 capacitors they were made from 3 different companies? WTF? 2 of the 3 brands are known to be inferior brands. I don't understand, if they are trying to save money why not use 5 of the bargain brand capacitor? Why mix inefrior and quality parts?

I hope they don't start making cars that way. Imagine buying a Toyota with Michelin tires on the front and Goodyear retreads on the back.

From what I understand Wal Mart is bad for doing this very thing. OR maybe they were in mid "switchover" to inferior parts, and you got lucky, lol.

Viewsonic CRT's were awesome. I have like 4 of them stashed under my stairs that would just not die.

For LCD's - next time you are in the market, try the LG line. More expensive, but worth it IMO - especially if you get an LED backlit version.

It's actually a blessing in disguise. Atleast for now, I've learned most monitors can be fixed by re-capping. (Computers suffer the same fate)

Another skillset I've picked up so I doubt I'll have to buy any more new monitors for a long time to come.

I've never had a cap blow on home equipment - I've had the smoke leave a few on power-supplies at various jobs.

My bad luck has been CFL's going out. And they are a PITA to fix.

It's do-able, but it takes some patience and some duct tape.

for PC LCD's i highly recommend Samsung and Acer.

I currently have 16 Acer LCD's and 4 Samsungs in my office of diffrent sizes and models since 07 and not one of them has ever went out....knock on wood

in CRT....i always used Viewsonic. they had the best picture quality and long life. i have a 19" black sitting in my basement that i used for 8 years that i retired 2 years ago. retired mainly because i bought a new desk and the monitor didnt fit well.

too bad that 4:3 LCD are hard to come by these days.....they are better for reading documents, web pages, etc....

It starts in the soil. Before someone even puts a seed in it, soil samples are taken to a laboratory in Sweden for analysis. Swedish Match experiments with cultivation in different countries to achieve the best possible raw tobacco. If declared a good soil for tobacco, seeds are planted and every step in the development and the cultivation of the plant is carefully ...
