larry graham rules. and cliff burton of course, the only cool thing about metallica and he had to go and die.

Burton was awesome. Reason I started playing myself. I like watching slap and funk bassists for fun but it's the technical metal bassists that keep me practicing every night.

Ryan Martine.
So hard to get a good video of his technique.

Man it's good to finally see some love for the bass.
Jaco was a crazy mofo. Amazing, but nuts. Burton was, like daruckis said, the best about Metallica. Claypool? Man Les Claypool is a cool cat.
Fun fact. At my old job this one dude always called me Claypool because I was the only bass player he knew. He'd always say, "What's going on Claypool?" I never tried to hide the smile on my face.

A friend of mine that I worked with played bass, and really opened me up to what good bass could sound like. I had filtered out the bass in the past, focusing on the midrange, but he got me really listening to bass, and I could even see myself playing it. It's a lot more interesting when the player's interesting :^)
Edit:
Here's my buddy's band, Cat Nights Begin. I've linked them before. He's a very talented player. Nothing really flashy like some of the stuff in this thread, but fun and interesting :^)

Almost everyone I know ranges from not caring about it to outright hatred for it, but I love old school 70's roots reggae music, one reason being that the bass plays lead instrument. I love the bass. When I have the money I can't wait to buy a big stand-up double bass. I took lessons many years ago and learned how to bow it -- it's the most physically-demanding instrument I can think of.

Unexpect is some wild stuff. Lots going on there, I'm gonna need to download some 'cause my computer speakers can't handle it but I definitely need to listen to more.
Here's two of my favorites.
Alex Webster
His speed is legendary.

Geezer Butler
His groove is legendary

PS-you get to see the very beginning of the fat Ozzy era in this vid.

edited because beer doesn't help me type
There's not a great video I've found where you can hear the bass clearly. Hearing it live is the best way, he cuts through the mix better.
