Great vids. Although I am not a big fan of the genre he plays, I can appreciate the mastery he has of the fret less bass.

I feel the same way about

Jaco's great. Manring studied under him for awhile, back in the 80s I think.

Especially his work with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.

        Bill Dickens is also amazing.

Yup. Too bad about Jaco, I would have loved to see what he would have matured into.

I like Mark Sandman from Morphine a lot. He wasn't particularly gifted, but he had a unique approach, and the low down groove with the baritone sax gave the band a great sound.

I've never heard of Morphine before. I'll definitely give it a deeper look.

              Thanks.

so..........I get the feeling this thread isn't about fish?!?
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Morphine is a great band. You're right lx, he wasn't all that technically impressive but he had that slight rythmic lag to each note that made their groves extra thick. I look forward to watching whatever you posted when I'm back home and not on my phone for the weekend. I used to have a '77 fender fretless but like a typical 19 year old dipshit I sold it in college for weed and top ramen money. I've never forgiven myself for that.

                      Edit: was a great band.

Good stuff Owens. Primus is kind of weird band for me. They're interesting to listen to, but I'm not that crazy about them. Very riff oriented, but there's a lot of neat stuff going on in the tunes. Claypool is a huge talent in any case.

Les Claypool and the Holy Mackrel is a great album. It's some of Les' home recordings compiled and finished into songs. It's not as "wacky" as Primus can be.
