Me too, brother, me too. Add to that Bad Brains and the Minutemen and countless... other... 80's hardcore bands! Lol. OK back to the 90's. When good rap music died too. EDIT: wow, I think I just learned to not post a reply while on page 3 of a 7 page thread! Can we just rename it the Punk Rock Thread? Haha. As for pop vs hardcore or whatever, I always saw it as 2 camps: Black Flag vs NOFX. Back in the day it was hard to find fans of both it seemed. I personally can't stand most NOFX, Propaghandi-type stuff, but I would never crap on anyone for liking it, especially with new music today being such shite. But I personally like my punk rock hard, fast, short, and most important, angry. This thread rocks! Thanks for liking DMB chad, and thanks RRK for calling him out! Good talk, fellas.

Actually, to me, the 90's is more "post punk", and the birth of "pop punk". Real punk as a movement started in the late 70's and reached it's peak in the mid 80's, then sorta died off, and evolved into the forms mentioned above. Real punk still lives, and it's influence of "fashion" and sound continue, but real punk, to me anyway, it more an attitude, of DIY, and anti-establishment control.

I'd agree with that. I hadn't heard the term pop punk until the mid nineties but on the wikipedia article it says the Ramones were the first pop punk band so I came to the conclusion that they just decided to split all of the sub genres into either pop punk or hardcore. For instance anything with a ska beat is considered pop punk.
