I suppose this is not a big thing.

So we have been talking about Old Style: "The only Krauesened Beer" in the U.S. Well, I knew that Old Style was still being produced.

A few weeks ago I went to IN. I am a big beer fan and saw a beer that I thought was no longer being produced: Blatz. I grew up watching all of the "blind taste test commercials". I never thought I was going to be able to try this. In short, it is not bad. It is like the High Life, yet a little more mild. Anyone else know that they were still making this? And if so, how do you rate it? I know that it is a Pilsner, just like most US domestics, but compare it to them. I think it is quite good and cheap. It is much better than Bud Light and Miller Lite.

I had some maybe a year and a half ago. Umm, not the best beer in the world, but drinkable. Then again, I drink PBR so what do I know.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valenti...rewing_Company

In 1969, Blatz was acquired from Pabst by the G. Heileman Brewing Company. Heileman, in turn, was acquired by the Stroh Brewery Company in 1996. On 8 February 1999, prior to its disolution in 2000, the Stroh Brewery Company sold its labels to the Pabst Brewing Company and to the Miller Brewing Company. By 2007, Blatz was once again part of Pabst.

      .....snip........

      Today
The "Blatz" beer label currently is produced by the Miller Brewing Company of Milwaukee, under contract for Pabst Brewing Company, managed by CEO, Charles Thomas Blatz who coincidently shares the last name of the previous founder.

The Blatz Brewery Building was purchased and converted to condos in 2005-2006. The Blatz building's downtown location has made it a premier place to live in Milwaukee. In 2008, Blatz Beer made its return to the brewery building. Rather than being brewed there, however, it is merely available for purchase from the Blatz Market & Liquor.
I'll throw another old name at you Schlitz.

No wonder I was never able to find Blatz beer when I was out and about. Great info Justin. Now, if they would only bring back RWB, Cinci Cream, and Olympia I would know what all of those beers tasted like when I was sorting them in MI...when I was 15 years old.

I live in Wisconsin, and I see Blatz signs everywhere, but I don't think I've tried it. We also have Hamm's and Special Export which I like pretty well. Beer is still a big deal in WI, and there are a lot of brews that have been around a long time, but that hardly ever leave the state...

Yes, Old Style is regional, but it is the official beer of the Chicago Cubs, sold at Wrigley, so it's definitely not rare...

I grew up on Carling Black Label, Tech and Iron City when it was made from the polluted waters of the Ohio River. While in college, I drank Hamm's and generic beer (it came in white cans with the word "BEER" stenciled on the can). In those days, the drinking age was 18 and some states had 3.2 beer. Compared to some of the stuff I drank, Blatz was quality! Today I drink Old Milwaukee and Keystone Ice (not much better than what I drank while I was in college When I want a good beer, I drink Yengling draft or Sam Adams. My favorite is a beer named "Fishers" (the French version). It has a honey taste to it. But as the old saying goes, after the third beer, they all taste the same

I'm old enough to remember when the official beer of the Cubs was Hamms and when Ernie Banks hit his 500th home run. ops:
