Snus or preference for drinking with Pilsner beer?

Include all beers if you like but I normally drink Pilsner (standard U.S. macro beers). Although I do have a taste for the home brew and a good Sierra Nevada pale ale, I am not going to pay for it with the amount of beer I drink.

So, what snus do you like to have with your beer? The snus that has citrus flavors like Rape No. 2 and Got. Yellow just don't work well with the cheap swill I drink. Maybe they are lacking the salt because the beer overpowers the other subtle flavors? Could the Phantom have a use in my life? You know, cheap beer with cheap snus. It has a lot of salt and pepper flavors. I think Probe Whiskey is the least compatible of all that I have tried, but one of my favorites when I am done drinking for the evening. Right now my go-to snus for beer consumption is Knox portion. Do you also change what you are using when beer is consumed? (please don't ask what brand(s) of beer I drink unless you want to a good laugh and then have disdain for me later)

    Cheers.

Camel Original? An American crappy snus for an American crappy beer?

Seriously you're talking about beer with a rather low flavor quotient, which is why so many snus are going to interfere with it. Maybe try General Silver, wise minis, or something of that nature...

or you could go the opposite route and get a snus that's going to completely overpower the beer.

2+ years living in Germany combined with the massive availability of quality craft brews here in the PacNW means i can't touch the American pilsners.

I truly don't care what the beer tastes like, I want a snus that will work through the dilution of it's flavor by the beer. I suppose I want something that will compliment the beer too. Citrus flavor does not seem to compliment it very well, but the salt and bergamot does (Knox works well). I agree with you that maybe a snus that overpowers the beer would be the route I am most interested in. I want to get some idea of what else is out there might work at complimenting and I suppose overpowering the beer flavor. Thank you for your comment.

I'm suprised tha the citrus is interfering with your enjoyment of the beer as lighter beers are often served with a twist of lemon in Germany (think Corona with a lime).

I wonder if this might be up your alley:

although I've not heard any rave reviews of the stuff..

If any of you guys in the US can get a'hold of Celis White (aka Celis Beer) from Texas then you'll end up drinking what my best friend calls the best beer on earth.
He's a definite beer lover and beer literate and by his own guess has tasted over a thousand different brews. It's not *my* personal fave but if he debates anyone and everyone for hours and hours, in-depth, on why this is the best brew on earth, then you know there's some magic in there.

In Europe Mr. Celis used to be the brew master in charge of Hoegaarden beer until his company got bought out and he moved Stateside together with his recipe.

              Funny anecdote:
The company that bought him out (Interbrew IIRC) wanted to cut costs and promptly botched [um, no, completely f-ed up] the brewing process while moving the brewery out of the town called Hoegaarden and ended up with massive delivery shortages across Europe because they couldn't get the taste even remotely right. Celis had warned them about this; supposedly, the water from the town was essential to the taste.
So even after ignoring the protests from thousands of fans and long-time employees they had to ask Celis for advise and had to go crawling back to the town brewery with their tails between their legs.
(Told to me by the same friend)

I am having a middle bitter german Pilsener right now, together with a Skruf Stark portion. A perfect match! Normally I use Ettan portions when drinking beer. Everything with a stronger Bergamot or lemony taste doesn't really go well with beer...

Don't sweat it! Forget Hoegaarden. Just look for Celis White, it's the original ye olde recipe for Hoegaarden. Today that's more Hoegaarden than Hoegaarden itself.

I'm normally a stout drinker and I'm actually afraid to use snus with a thick beer but I have discovered that i like Roda Lacket with Hefeweizen's since they both have fruity overtones, but sometimes that can just be too much.

I agree with Xobeloot and Zeno...

My favourite with beer is Grov, followed by Ettan and then maybe General...

Gotlands yellow is far too subtle in flavour......IMHO I think GR#1 would only really work with something that can compliment its flavour but as shesacreamer noted there is the risk that the fruity overtones of something like a riesling, chardonnay or Chimay beer will simply be too much...

...Grov and Ettan also work well with red wine and single malts....

My favorite beer and snus combo would have to be a New Castle beer with a Gustavus los snus or Grov los. Gustavus has turned out to be my favorite snus and I find Grov to be very similar to it. Just something about the flavor and how well it stays in the mouth and how well it juices in the mouth. Its almost like a salty taste. Either way I love it and will be my go to snus for some time. I do not drink much but New Castles are one of my favorite beers and putting it together with a Gustavus or Grov is like having multiple orgasms.

Well, my favorite beer these days is Blue Moon Belgian style wheat beer and General Onyx pouches work well with it.

Interesting combos, I really enjoyed General with Green Lakes Organic Amber. I also can snus just about anything with Stone Brewing's Arrogant Bastard Ale (frankly that stuff just overpowers whatever snus I have in).
