Just to add to the math challenged fun... I took the minimum requirements for math in highschool, which was 2 credits. I picked algebra A and B. That's algebra 1 split over 2 years for dummies, I still managed to fail algebra A though :^D Once I got through those classes, that was the last math I took, and I swore I'd never have anything to do with math again. Less than a year out of highschool I got a job as a land surveyor, and 22 years later that's still what I'm doing. Every day for me is filled with numbers, and almost continuous math :^P

I've found that math is easier for me the second time I study it. My second year of algebra A wasn't too bad, though algebra B was still a bit of a challenge. I'm the same way with music. I can struggle with something until I'm tired of seeing it, and come back to it a week later and wonder what the problem was. I guess I just need more time than most people, and my brain has to process the information without me being there to push it.

Don't worry, you'll find a couple in your college career...

i'm having a pretty easy time with math in college right now. (i think it's college algebra...098)
despite i failed algebra in high school and forgot most of what i did learn.
perhaps it's because our teacher isn't a draconian nazi like i had in high school.

At least you two can do math. I work with a bunch of biologists, and the simplest mathematical exercises leave them goggle-eyed and drooling. It can actually be a little annoying. Anecdote: Every day I have to do a simple calculation in the morning and before going home that involves this: (x*1440)/y. x is a volume that you measure, and y is a number of things that you count. Without exaggeration, the last technician I had took 3 months before he could do this without my help. And I still didn't trust him to do it right. Frustrating.

Amazing how it works out like that, isnt it?! I am a math flunkie myself, and now I do sales and fabrication work which involves 50% math to plot and build to extremely strict tolerances. I failed college algebra 4x. Now I get things from customers loaded with X,Y,Z and have to build/make it.

    Hey John,

Thanks for the comments...as you say, its nice to meet other snus folk who are folkies

Its possible that our paths may have crossed at some stage...I am not really a great session player, but even so, I have been out and about with the pipes for many years, and gigged quite a bit....we probably have a few mutual friends too.

The Gosport Festival....that takes me back quite a bit. I first met Nick Scott there when I had a crappy practice set, and he really set me on the right path. I lived in Bristol for a number of years, and taught pipes at the Hibernia school, but various events in my life brought me back to my old home town of Pompey.

If you are going to be at the Easter festival on the Sunday, I will make plans to go, and I hope that we can meet up, and have a few tunes maybe, or at least share some snus We can make further arrangements via email. If you find yourself in Pompey, you'll always be welcome to drop in and chill here for a while

    Cheers

    Steve

I appreciate the kind feedback. An Phis Fluich is one of my faves, but I dread it when people ask me what an phis fluich means....its very very rude

MORNA - Now - Uillean pipes - that's a seriously hard instrument to play, let alone do it professionally! For those of you who don't know what this instrument is it's a type of bagpipes which requires the same skill as playing the guitar with your feet while patting your head and rubbing your tummy and juggling at the same time!

Nice to see the heads up to Nick Scott & Alan Burton on your website - great blokes!

It's nice to know there's another folky snuser out there in the UK. If I'm ever playing near Portsmouth (we play Easney Cellars quite a lot) hows about I give you a shout and we can swap cans of the stuff which isn't doing much for us both in our fridges/freezers?

Tin whistle is a great instrument....I wish I was better on the whistle, but devote my energies to the pipes instead. If you want some free MP3s of my playing, have a look at www.pipesofireland.com (MP3 section)
