"Weed the People: Over 35,000 Strong for Marijuana Legalization"

It was just last Thursday that the White House launched their petition website, โ€œWe the People.โ€ That morning, NORML submitted a petition calling for the legalization of marijuana. In just four short days the petition has received over 35,000 signatures, making it the most signed petition on the website by nearly 15,000 names. Thousands of Americans are calling upon President Obama to end marijuana prohibition and more are joining in every minute.

While the caliber of the Presidentโ€™s response may, in the end, be questionable, what is unquestionable is that this outpouring of support generated a large, positive, media buzz for marijuana legalization. Including coverage on the Dylan Ratigan Show on MSNBC.

For those that are interested, here is a video of the "New Approach Washington" press conference from June:

In the interest of full disclosure (and to avoid starting a repeated conversation), a response was posted by "Patients Against I-502" 5 days ago in the comments section of the video:

What it means: If you are over 21 and have more than 5 ng/ml of THC in your bloodstream, you are guilty of DUI even if you are not impaired. If you are under 21, that limit drops to 0.00. In other words, even if you are a patient, you cannot have even the slightest detectable amount of THC in your system while driving a car.

Incredibly Inspiring Speech From Peter McWilliams

It's sad that cannabis patients are still asked to make life-and-death choices between their medicine and their personal freedoms, more than a decade after Peter McWilliams tragic and senseless death.

                  Libertarianism eh?

There are several libertarian-types on here (Bigblue1 comes to mind).. You should fit right in.

Myself? Well, that's another area we're going to disagree, but I won't stand in your way of expressing it.

I remember Peter. He wrote a book, something like,
                    Nobody's Business But Your Own.

To Patients Against I-502: (WARNING : My language is foul)
I don't mean to be discriminating - but exactly what are you doing on our SNUS forum, since you have yet to post a comment regarding snus. If you truly want to fight I-502, y'all might want to check out a Cannabis site.
'Cause I've got a feeling that you're getting on our collective tits.
Personally I smoke weed for a good laugh, but and think that DUI should regard ANY drugs, be these marijuana, beer or heroin.

If the next thing you post isn't a positive and praising comment about snus(I'll accept praise about any smokeless tobacco just to be fair) THOU SHANT NO LONGER BE RECOGNIZED!

For this is a snus forum that simply has implemented threads for dip, chew, snuff and Cannabis. I believe that the audience you are targeting with your comments might be a bit off - since everybody that is active in this thread uses cannabis as an euphoria inducing drug.
And regarding your comment about not being intoxicated because cannabis is not toxic - now that is just plain ol' dumb.
Pure ecstacy isn't toxic, do you still think people should be driving under the influence of this drug and not be taken for it?
So far I am very displeased with your respectless image of us, apparently seeing us as no-good stoners who can't tell which way is up - I understand that your comments are well meaning, but trying to force them unto others in this fashion is simply not acceptable!
Since I've joined this forum I've always seen a fair deal of political talk on here, but no one ever tried to force their political ideologis onto others and we respect each others opinions and we hardly ever tell others what to think, unless it's all in good fun. I do not believe I know anyone on this forum who ever liked a member that lurked one thread and spread propaganda to change others decision.

You see, we're all people who like a bit off the good life, and we have fun no matter how different we are, and we sure as hell don't try to change each other just because we disagree. I'm a blood red socialist, but I sure enjoy talking to the other people on here as long as they don't try to break my head apart and cram their ideas don't my open skull.
So I kindly ask you to find another forum if the only reason you are here is to smear shit all over I-502 because you disagree. You see, I might disagree with the libertarians on this forum but I sure as hell don't start speaking about how they are inconsiderate - NO, we have a friendly conversation and discuss snus, the thing this beloved forum is ****ing made for.

Also I excuse that I lost my temper there, but that's just how I feel.

I will agree that it is a smaller risk compared to alcohol, but its still a risk nonetheless.

Also, just because you have the sense to not drive when you're very intoxicated, doesn't mean that others follow your example. Believe it or not, there are a lot of stupid people out there that wouldn't think twice about using the road system while they're stoned out of their mind.
I didn't say it makes it right. It aint wrong either, if you are capable. But I was just stating that regular smokers can and indeed do drive just fine. Whether its right or wrong is besides the point, its just a fact.

And I did not say everyone has sense. I was pointing to the fact that alcohol makes you BELIEVE things that are not true, like you can drive drunk. MJ does not have that effect. It does not fool you into believing you aren't stoned. If someone who can not drive stoned, does, and gets in an accident, it was their stupid decision. Whereas with alcohol, its because they believed they could drive, because that is what alcohol does to you.

I do not want to see MJ treated exactly the same as alcohol, because its entirely different in what it does to you, its entirely different in the control you have over yourself. Mimicing alcohol just because they don't know how to treat it is moronic. Although it appeases all of those with drinks in their hand blasting those that smoke. It makes them feel better to scream about DUI's and stuff that really doesn't apply to MJ.

Oh well, I really don't care if its ever legal or not. I have it just fine the way it is. I always have it, I do not pay for it, I have the best of the best, and it will make no difference at all if it stays as it is now, or becomes legal. My situation will not change in the least. I just laugh when i see the arguements continue about pot, when alcohol is legal and causes so many deaths per year, and MJ does none of it. Its all just politcal drivel. Matters not to me.

Putting all the 'pot talk' aside: What you just said is a prime example of what's wrong with American society today; people only looking out for themselves.

I use cannabis for medical purposes. I suffer from a debilitating condition, and I use cannabis to prevent and treat my ailments. Anything after that is just an added benefit.

I guess I should start by praising snus, since my words shant be recognized if I don't.

Now that we got that out of the way, let me say I don't think you have lost your temper. I think you make some valid points and I appreciate the fact that you've pointed these things out to me so I can fix my mistakes if possible.

I didn't realize that this forum was only open to people who use smokeless tobacco. Forgive me for assuming that a thread on cannabis was fair game to anyone interested in cannabis.

I also didn't realize that I was being disrespectful to or inconsiderate of smokeless tobacco users? To my knowledge, I haven't said anything to offend smokeless tobacco users, but if I have and I am unaware of this, please help me understand so that I am not disrespectful in the future. This is said with a genuine concern and not a hint of sarcasm. I really do try to be open and accepting of everyone. I truly am sorry if I have done something to make you feel that I am marginalizing your community or being disrespectful in any way.

As for forcing my political ideologies on others, I have said repeatedly that Patients Against New Approach Washington exists solely to provide all the information so voters can make an educated decision of their own. I just want to make sure everyone has the research at their fingertips. The decision they make after that is no one's but their own. I-502 is definitely an issue that can provoke every opinion from A to Z. For patients, it's as simple as not being able to back an initiative that will make us criminals once again. But not every voter is a patient and those voters will have to weigh the benefits and consequences themselves.
