    Big Brother strikes again...........

I'm going to have to put a sledge hammer in the car.

Oh wait!!!! Now the gangs can practice their aim for their drive by shooting! good deal.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I don't think that's radar. It looks like it only has a window directly across the road, and you need to be facing the car to time the signal to and from the unit. My guess is either a car counter to see how much traffic is on the road, or a license plate reader. The first isn't a big problem, but I don't like the second possibility.

looks like 2 units. One to check your oncoming speed and the other to get your plate number after you pass it.

they wouldn't go thru that much trouble for a temporary traffic counter when a simple hose will do.

probably have to sneek up behind them to destroy em otherwise ya might be filmed.

I can't see it being a speed trap because if it's a radar it needs to be either directly facing or to the rear of your vehicle for a period of time. In the UK we have road markings by the speed traps so that your speed can be accurately measured on the photograph too. Not unless this is some new fangled technology that doesn't require all this.

if you believe snoopes. I do because I knew it was just a matter of time before they would come up with this technology.

Sadly that looks like a British crash barrier and foliage on a secluded A road.

The yellow markings indicate that it is indeed a speed camera. That is the way they all have to be marked here. They by law have to be bright yellow.

On the second photograph there is a gantry that does not look like British road furniture unless it is part of a train track. The verges and everything else suggests Britain to me

Dur! It is a train track and not road furniture. Just realised the camera angle.

Looks like the Netherlands, they go in for all that secluded crap (been caught by a few never paid a dam penny either!) the striped marker on the road in the first pic is very continental Europe, not the UK. If it was here its one of the few things we would be up in arms about!

Yeah, that black and white marker wouldnt appear on a straight road, unless its to mark the spot of the camera for servicing.

The train tracks look way too high tech for us too Overhead power lines with scaffolding? Unheard of here

The story has been playing in my mind recently, because all summer I have been puzzling over the lack of reaction in Britain to the Snowden revelations about US and UK communications surveillance, a lack that at some moments has seemed even more remarkable than the revelations themselves. Today, apparently, we are at ease with a system of near total intrusion that would have horrified every adult Briton 25 years ago. Back then, western spies acknowledged the importance of freedom by honouring the survivors of those networks; now, they spy on their own people.

We have changed, that is obvious, and, to be honest, I wonder whether I, and others who care about privacy and freedom, have been left behind by societies that accept surveillance as a part of the sophisticated world we live in. Even so, the neglect of the Snowden story by the British media does seem remarkable.
