new guy here story and general questions

Heya Names Arokh and im from San Francisco California.

I recently got back into snus after stumbling across the Northerner site. I tried it a while ago out of sheer curiosity but my cans spoiled and dried out as i was in the process of moving. SO i just kinda forgot about snus until i saw the camel snus at my local cigarette store.

Im a heavy smoker and decided why not try snus again and see if it does anything to help me at least slow down my 2 pack a day habit!

Its been a couple days and already, without even realizing it, ive dwindled to 3/4 of a pack. Imagine my shock! Even the few cigs i have had that day suddenly dont feel right. Im pretty happy with this of course!

so i bought a sample pack of loose from the northerner but would like to try buysnus.com just to compare. My faves are the goteborgs Rape and the Ettan. Tho honestly at first i couldnt tell one from the other, it took me a while to start noticing the subtle differences. Rape is just so light and chill. I love that stuff! same for Ettan, just a tad bit more of a kick to it taste wise.

ANyways before this gets too long, which shop is prefered? northerner or otherwise? How long do you keep your snus in before it looks like youve been eating a whole bag of oreos? Or is that just me? actually its gotten better about not looking like im chewing on mud but thats just cause im new to loose snus. and what do you do about wrinkly salty lip? Heh some of these are way too salty for my taste and i figure theres some way to minimise or at least recover from the inevitable wrinkly salty inner lips i get.

Well thats my first post. not much there but its whats on my mind now. Perhaps you can suggest some snus for me to try? I might enjoy trying one of the'fruity' brands as well. maybe some portion snus too..

    ok ill shut up now

First of all arokh, welcome to the forum.

And from San Francisco too!! I grew up in California, went to Berkeley, and lived in the Bay area for 11 years before coming to North Carolina 13 years ago.

To answer a few of your questions. Both Buysnus and Northerner are great. I think Buysnus is somewhat more popular among members here. I primarily use them, but order from Northerner occasionally too. Speed of delivery is about the same, I find Buysnus customer service a bit more responsive. But both are good!!

The wrinkly lips, and your reaction to the salt will diminish rapidly. there is just a bit of time needed for your body to adjust. Soon you won't notice the salt much at all

I think you will find that, as you do adjust to the salt, you will start to taste the taste of the snus better and better.

I'm a portions only guy, so can't really make any recommendations, but check out the top 5 thread. You will see a lot of consistency in some of the top 5 favorites.

Don't stress about stopping smoking. it will happen naturally. I started using snus about 20 months ago, And I never intended to quit ciggs. I just needed something to get me through the work day. Funny thing happened though over the next few weeks, I just smoked fewer and fewer until I didn't smoke any. Snus just became my preferred brand. Still smoke one occasionally when I WANT one. And will even buy a pack occasionally, mostly now only when I am on my motorcycle for 10 hours or more. Something about bikes and cigarettes just seem hard for me to break.

Again, welcome, i hope you stay around with us. Lots of good info heare and great folks

awesome for the first steps here

But yeah i am just so shocked at how quickly my need to smoke diminished. seriously 2 packs a day to half a pack? wow! and im not even TRYING yet!

Other things i noticed today, after only 4 or so days of snussing, lunch tasted GREAT! holy crap it was GOOD! and this is literally the crap food off the food coach i eat every day at lunch. it might be the sudden lack of smoking but damn! i do believe im getting my staste back perhaps? heard of this kinda thing?

        thanks again!

OH and yeah i totally get the ridign and smokign thing too Im a big rider myself. I ride a lil 650 Silverwing right now but am gonna be looking at a gold wing in the next year or so. Its got so many pockets and compartments! one even chilled for snus! ROFL. well chilled for beer perhaps?

And yeah as a rider you have to smoke, it adds to the awesome coolness that comes with leathers and a motorbike. (unless you ride a crotch rocket then you dont need the added chance of death by smoking) can ya tell i prefer cruisers?

          Ever been to Alice's?

ok its shutup time for me again. Damn im long winded!

            Hey Arokh

I've only been using snus for about a month and Sage is right, the saltyness does go away in time as does the wrinkly lip. It took about 2 weeks of real snus for it to diminish which was a sad time for me because I liked the salty taste but then, the real flavors began to come thru. Goteborg's Rape #2 is a fruity one I like. But again, you really won't get the Lingonberry taste until you get over the salty bit. Like it has been said on the forum so many times by Sage and the other veterans, everybody has thier own tastes and you may taste things that others may not. Just remember, have fun, try as many as you can and you'll find ones you like. That's exactly what I'm doing although, I have ordered some Phantom only because of the debate that goes on here about it. I hope everyone dosen't mind when I post my opinion! And don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone here has been real helpful and friendly about answering.

Hey big thanks there yeah its been a few more days and a few more dozen gobs of salty goodness. Just today i had Ettan and noticed the saltyness was far less than it was last week. It could be also that its dried out a tad bit since i last used it. How log do they last after you open them anyway? Im chipping away at a sample box i bought from Northerner. so far there hasnt been any flavor thats just made me think twice about snus honestly. Its just with 8 cans and im dipping into each one, im just afraid theyd spoil? or dry out? im not entirely sure how to know if or when it goes bad.

I ordered a new batch a couple days ago so far Ettan, General, and rape are my faves. I also ordered a couple cans of portioned to see if the bags make snusing out in public a bit less messy when it comes time to spit it out. Tho ive gotten pretty darn good at the stealth eject, drink, and then smile as if nothing was ever there to begin with LOL

Ive had the typical growing pains but my lip and gums seem to be getting used to it. Ive also slowed on my smoking considerably. I used to smoke a pack and a half a day easy. now one pack has lasted me 2 days. Im shocked! and im not even trying to stop. i just kinda am.

ANyways so far so good. the experimenting with flavors and brands is going to be quite fun and i look forward to each new order i get for a good while. OH and the smoking going away isint half bad either

No!!! You make me my posts look like the pinnacle of brevity. :P :P :P :P

Been to Alice's, long time ago.

I ride a Hyosung GV250, but am saving my pennies to get a Honda PC800 as well. I have dumped my car, and want the PC 800 to help me ride through winter here, plus a bike I can just take on the freeway for 8 hours. I adore my GV250. She is light, and has almost twice the power of any other 250 Cruiser. She basically has a Ninja engine in a Cruiser frame. But so light and nimble, probably the favorite bike I have ever rode.

So by next may, I will have two bikes. Then eventually, I probably will pick up a small sport bike just so I can have the trifecta. Figure as long as I don't own a car, owning three bikes and paying cash for all, less than a new bargain basement car plus less for insurance and gas. It's all OK and not THAT wasteful...LOL

The quitting smoking thing will come. Like I said, I never planned on it, I didn't even try. Just the more I used snus, the less I seemed to smoke until one day, I just stopped remembering to buy cigarettes any more.

Snus doesn't really "go bad". I have found cans sitting in the back of the refrigerator for 7 months. Not quite as tasty as fresh, but passable. The snus will dry out a bit the longer it is open. I tend to keep my opens in the fridge, but doubt that is really a necessity. My unopened live in the freezer. And those seem as good as new when I finally open them up.
