Agreed, my partner in musical crime is a big Lustmord(the gothic/industrial/ambient guy, I think we're all on the same page) fan. Ah The Melvins were great at DV8 in Seattle in 1996 when I was a wee lad of 19! they played with L7! Re snus:I'm a portion-puss. I like the idea of loose, but I like the stealthy aspect of portion. I did a successful, awesome job interview with a lip full of Nick&Johnny strong and my soon-to-be boss was none the wiser! True Story! Glad you guys share some of my musical interest. My curent "sneaky" snus is Phantom Classic Blue portion, I thought it smelled of ammonia at first, my buddy said it harkened back to his days cleaning a piss-filled cat box. I put that rank thought out of my head and now I'm really loving it, and it's dirt cheap, I can get 3 cans for what I might pay for 1 Camel tin of 15 portions! I must apologize for my rambling, multi-directional posts...just glad to have found an online community of people who have a similar interest.

Cool, I have some new cans on their way too. General Sterk is rad, my can is nearly gone, it's white portion and it's very wedge-shaped like the tobacco is more compressed for slower release, it has a great flavor too. My impending shipment contains a Gotlandsnus green portion, Goteborgs #2 portion and a Skruf Strong. I think I'll invest in an icetool and some various loose stuff in a few weeks. btw: Dale Crover is a hero here in Seattle to the guys I know who are avid drummers, he's like Thor, or some sort of god!

I found that it took me a lot longer to discover any flavor in loose than it did with portions; it's still a lot more subtle, also. I don't use loose as much these days, nor did I ever use it with the same frequency as portions, so that may be a major factor.
Oh...and The Melvins RULE! I haven't heard anything from the new album yet; I'll have to check that out. Those guys are hilarious when they do interviews...Long live Buzz's hair! 8)
I think it's funny how this is turning into a snus/Melvins-hybrid thread...

god frickin' bless this shit. people mentioning dale crover, making remarks on the king's hair (not elvis, BUZZO!) .... amazing. yeah i bet dale is a god in seattle. he is, in fact, one of the best drummers to ever walk this here fine earth of ours......
i could gush about the melvins for hours. dont get me started. ive seen them over more times than i can count. at least 50-60 in the past 16 years. hard to believe in 09 they will have been together for 25 years.

Originally posted by lxskllrLös is just a different experience, neither better or worse than portion. Most snus I prefer the lös, but there's some I like the portions better. I like the mouth feel of lös, and I feel the flavor lasts longer at a constant lower state than portions. Portions start off strong, then fall off, whereas lös starts mellow, but holds that level much longer than portions. It's all personal preference. I'd try the lös from different brands to see how they differ, but if you prefer portions, there's nothing wrong with them :^)
Agree on all points-- Especially with better "mouth feel."
But I agree that the portions are indeed stronger. I think they add more salt to portions to alter the PH levels, thereby "freebasing" the nicotine.

I have to say, I started on portions, mainly because I was afraid to fail at handbaking prises. I almost gave up on snus because I couldn't get flavor out of portions...I'd have to literally chew them to get anything. Anyway, once I got over my handbaking fear, I found out that snus was awesome! Now I'm obsessed with learning how to rebake a pris inside my mouth, move it from side to side, even turn a 'hilbilly' pinch into a neatly baked pris using my tongue. IMO, portion vs. los is a lot like people's preference for driving an automatic vs. a stick. Anyone can drive an automatic, and you still can enjoy the car, but some (myself included) don't feel that you're truly enjoying the car unless you have to do it all yourself. Not to knock any portion-users, but I like the interactive experience with the los.

COC - that's a good way to put it!!!
Everyone can drive an automatic, and experience the fun - but driving a stick shift is its own thing. But, you don't always want the stick shift either (like if you lived in San Francisco!) You can do it, but it ain't always fun. Anyhow... keep snusing.

@ fedora: Thanks for the validation. I'm glad no one took offense to my observation, but I truly feel that's a good analogy. Driving a stick isn't for everyone, and you're right, sometimes it doesn't even make sense. I like portions for the fact that they're accessible and unintimidating. In fact, my wife has even gotten curious about portions, and she's a HARDCORE smoker. So, I'm not hating on portions, I just don't think they're for me. For now. (You know how snusers' tastes change at the drop of a hat... )
@ holnrew: I know guys with a strong right arm, too, and they don't drive sticks...ok, well, they have strong right wrists, but I know that COULDN'T have been what you meant...
