Once you have acquired a firearms cert here, the options open to you for ownership are very wide. I have seen a lot of people shooting M16s and other military rifles. I used to shoot a very ancient british army .762 rifle the club owned on the 1000 yard range, really makes you appreciate what the army had to put up with back then as I wouldn't have called it the easiest gun to use! The one I never forget was when one of the members brought along bullets and a rifle specifically designed for taking down elephants on game shoots, he kept the bullets in cigar tubes and made them himself. The recoil pushed me back an inch when I first shot it (indoors) and even with ear defenders on, you never forget the noise it made. One hell of an experience!
