just for the record i do find this a bit funny that some of you american brothers think that here in britain we can only have air guns or shot guns this is not the truth!!!!!
if you have a firearms certificate lots and lots of money and some where to use it you can go out and buy a .50bmg snipers rifle fitted with a sound moderater and a night vison scope , try doing that in california !!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. getting hold of a firearms cerificate is far from easy thing to do here BUT IT IS POSSIBLE JUST...............

I had one and I can assure you it was not easy and took a long time, some of the guys at the gun club had some weaponry that would put the yanks to shame!

extreme and skell i know thats the real sad bit when the yanks think about shooting sports here in britain they must think ROBIN HOOD and bows and arrows..
mind you if any of them can hit the vbull at 1000 meters with a bow i would give up my place on the fireing line for them and buy the beers later too........

As a former captain of a shooting club, someone with a university blue in the sport and all around good looking guy, we never lost a shooting comp against any american university who dared challenge us Once you have acquired a firearms cert here, the options open to you for ownership are very wide. I have seen a lot of people shooting M16s and other military rifles. I used to shoot a very ancient british army .762 rifle the club owned on the 1000 yard range, really makes you appreciate what the army had to put up with back then as I wouldn't have called it the easiest gun to use! The one I never forget was when one of the members brought along bullets and a rifle specifically designed for taking down elephants on game shoots, he kept the bullets in cigar tubes and made them himself. The recoil pushed me back an inch when I first shot it (indoors) and even with ear defenders on, you never forget the noise it made. One hell of an experience!

I'm supportive of a "firearm certification" mandate in this country.. It trains those interested in owning firearms to wield properly, and prevents ease of access to those with little to no experience.

Couple that with strengthened background checks, and you have a decent gun control policy. However, the issue of mental health and society would still need to be addressed. No gun control policy will be truly effective if you don't tackle the root problem head-on.

I was a dab hand with a .22 rimfire (hehe rim!) when we were teaching people to shoot fullbore rifles we told them to be prepared to feel sore for a few days as it was very different from prone .22 shooting, the pain came from the sling doing that!

Its what we have here, the junior members weren't allowed near a gun until we had trained them in the safe use first, we were always suspicious of those who turned up and just wanted to go shooting, even those who told us they had shot before, i didn't care, I was responsible so everyone started at the beginning, we had a good bunch of loyal members who knew their stuff and were responsible.

The only thing that stops me from getting a 50 cal sniper rifle is the lack of 8 grand, and the fact out costs about 5 bucks every time you pull the trigger. That's a lot of snus I wouldn't be buying.
