Exactly. That 20% out of pocket can still be sometimes more then if you went out of the country to have the procedure taken care of. This is my biggest beef with our healthcare system. You pay every month for insurance but still have to pay for everything anyways. Usually in the hundreds to thousands of dollars. Many procedures also are not covered under your plan or are limited to one per year.

Its when I hear about your healthcare and how much it costs and how many people don't get or can afford the healthcare they need, that I am glad I live in the UK where we have free healthcare and that I shouldn't really grumble about it if I need to wait a bit. Saying that I have never really experienced the massive waiting times some people moan about on the NHS so I really cannot complain. You could just do what a lot of the illegal imigrants do here, come over, get your free healthcare, then go home, they will give you a bill but non of them pay it and they never (as far as I know) go after you for it. Eastern Europe is the best places over here for dental tourism, a few friends from ireland spent 1500 euro to have all the work done on their teeth and a 2 week holiday in Bulgaria, in Ireland it would have cost them 12,000 euro! Makes sense really.

Thanks mate. I think they wouldn't be classed as clinically neccessary and perhaps as cosmetic despite my dentist telling me i should get them done for the sake of my jaw. (this is an issue from before i even knew about snus)

Sounds medically neccessary to me! You should be fine but make sure you speak to your dentist about it.

Wow this thread is really ****ed. I had no idea dental care was so expensive that people would be forced to travel to other countries to get it, but I can't say i'm surprised. Everything is marked up in the US.

I doubt you'll save much on a $1,000 procedure by traveling to other countries but you can certainly save if it's a larger bill like texastorm had.

Does anyone know how Obamacare (HCA) figures into things like dental or vision insurance? Does the mandate stop at health insurance or does everyone have to maintain dental and vision coverage as well?

Well not at the NHS place i go to! Really need to sort out some implants on the lower left. Where's the cheapest and best value and best treatment in Europe then? Anyone know?

              edit: lower right

Bulgaria is quite cheap from what I hear, Poland and Hungary too. I would go for Poland as if they are as good there as my dentist is (he is Polish btw) then you will be in safe hands.

Okay but with Poland being part of the EU wouldn't that make their prices more expensive? (Hungary and Bulgaria aren't part of the EU yet are they?!)

Thanks, gonna have to seriously consider it - putting pressure on this tooth which is going to give. It's nowhere near where i snus but i need it to chew food.

As a stop gap until you can have an implant it may be worth it.
