I've been really loving the Sierra Nevada Summerfest lager recently. Very hoppy and flavorful for a lager.
Otherwise I'm partial to IPAs (Lagunitas is one of the best in my book) and malty red ales (as long as they are not sweet - Red Tail Ale is a good one).

So todays beer choice is Thirsty Dog Cerberus, a Belgian style trippel ale. What a very good and very complex beer. Full of flavors of fruit, spices, yeast, and a touch of honey. This one is rocking my world today, the only problem is that being as how it is a 10% beer, I will only be able to enjoy one or two.

I tend to really like the slightly Hop leaning IPAs if their too well balanced they still aren't hoppy enough haha. I especially like the really citrusy and really floral ones. I guess that is why I like Stone so much.

So I just recently tried dogfish head's 90 minute ipa. I had been putting it off because I am extremely picky about ipas. Occasionally there will be one that I love, but more often than not they just don't satisfy me, many make me think of cleaners...pinesole or lemon pledge. The 90 minute ipa is quite excellent, and I would rank it probably as my second favorite IPA, behind only Heavy Seas, Loose Cannon, which imo is the most balanced and easy to drink ipa there is. The 90 minute ipa is not near as easy to drink, it is a very slow sipper, but the flavors in it are fantastic.
Stouts...that is where it is at, but I don't find myself craving them much in the summer, I tend to lean more towards wheat beers for my summer choices. I think my favorite wheat is Sam Adams Imperial White, fantastic beer and very easy to drink for a 10%er.

I am a total Hophead. IPA's all summer long, Stouts all winter(Irish Hophead). Stone IPA is probably my favorite but locally Fish Tale Organic is really good and The Inversion IPA by Deschutes is really good. I have to admit I have a soft spot for Rainier Beer too

I recently discovered Hurricane HG, as other high-gravity lagers (Steel Reserve) disgust me, but heard good things about this beer and purchased a 24 oz. can for $1.39. I was pleasantly surprised; it's far less bitter than Steel Reserve. If you're low on money and want to get caustically drunk, try out a few tall boys.

I don't consider myself to be a beer snob, but i do avoid all macro brews and their not so well known owned brands, Hoegaarden (i actually like the taste of this one), Stella, Spaten, and Franziskaner for example on principle. They muscle out the little guys. All of the big three taste the same to me, like dirty water, and i don't like what they have done to some of the brands/breweries that they have bought out all for the sake of money. Craft brewers care about good beer before the money.
Microbreweries and nanobreweries are where it's at. They make flavorful and unique beers. Some of my favorites are; Samuel Adams as a stand by, Sierra Nevada, Anchor Brewing, Great Divide (Hades Belgian-Style Ale is great), Duvel, Piraat, Left Hand Brewing's Sawtooth Ale, Avery Brewing (their White Rascal Belgian While Ale is very tasty), off the top of my head. There are many more that i love. I wish i could try some Dogfish Head but i can't get it here in Nebraska. Colorado has a lot of great craft brewers.
I don't like porters or brown ales. On the fence with IPAs. Had a couple i enjoy and some i can't stand. Generally go for ales, Belgian ales, and lagers.

+1 is too short apparently so I am bringing back huzzah.
On the topic of %......I am often disappointed with beers that go over 10-ish because they lose their balance of flavor and get less.......ummmmm........beery.
I like a nice balance of flavor in a beer (within specific styles, for example......ipa is hoppy so just hops with no other flavor to balance or lift the hop is crap, but the profile of the beer is to be hop dominant....... know what i mean vern?) and I will drink those balanced flavor beers again and again.
Man....and I am sober as a bird.

Carlsberg is a good, crisp lager. I mostly enjoy it overseas, especially in Asia because they brew it everywhere but the USA. Over here it costs $11+ for a 6 pack. I don't pay that money for European lagers.

Originally posted by FrostedWhen I was at my parents house in France one Christmas, I went to a friend of mine from Ireland who happened to own a hotel there. His usual welcome of "would you like a wee drink" was always welcome. I asked for a Kronenbourg because I used to drink it in England and quite liked it. So he pours me a half litre of this stuff and after 7 of them I find myself singing Irish songs quite loudly and fell out of the hotel at closing time with my disgusted parents.
What I didn't know until the next day was that Kronenbourg in France is a lot stronger at 6% proof whilst in England it's 5. Mark my words, that 1 percent makes a hell of a difference to your dignity.
