Four jailed for Berlin disco bombing
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/1653575.stm

The bomb claimed three lives and injured scores

Four people have been found guilty in Berlin of the 1986 bombing of a disco - an attack which the United States and German prosecutors have blamed on Libya. The West Berlin disco, La Belle, was popular with US soldiers when it was attacked. The bomb killed three people - including two US servicemen - and injured about 250.

The attack prompted retaliatory air strikes by the US against two Libyan cities.

The Berlin court upheld claims that Libyan secret service agents and embassy staff had planned the disco attack - but stopped short of blaming Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi in person.

Three of those sentenced worked at the Libyan embassy in what was then East Germany.

Libyan Musbah Eter - jailed for 12 years

The four people found guilty include Yasser Shraydi, a Palestinian accused of being the ringleader. He was jailed for 14 years for multiple counts of attempted murder.

Libyan Musbah Eter and Lebanese-born Ali Chanaa were also found guilty of attempted murder, and jailed for 12 years.
Chanaa's ex-wife, Verena, who actually planted the bomb, was the only one of the four convicted of murder. She was handed a 14-year sentence.

A fifth defendant, the sister of Verena Chanaa, was cleared.

    'They took my son'
The explosion ripped through the La Belle disco on 5 April 1986. Twenty-one-year-old US Sergeant Kenneth T Ford and 29-year-old Turkish woman Nermin Hannay died at the scene.

Another US sergeant, James E Goins, died later in hospital of his injuries.

Relatives of the victims and former soldiers expressed disappointment at the sentences.

"They took my son from me and no verdict can replace that for me," the father of Kenneth Ford told the Associated Press news agency.

Palestinian Yasser Shraydi was described as the ringleader

The judge said prosecutors had failed to prove that the attack was planned on the personal orders of Colonel Gaddafi, partly because of the lack of co-operation from Western secret services.

But he said the bombing had been planned by members of the Libyan secret service and workers at the Libyan embassy in East Berlin.
The judge criticised the "limited willingness" of German and US secret services to provide evidence.
It was one of the "disappointments" of the trial, he said.

Efforts to find the bombers received a massive boost when files of the former East German secret police, the Stasi, were released after the reunification of Germany.
The files named Eter as a Libyan secret agent. He was arrested, and his testimony provided further names and details.

U.S. warplane crashes in Libya, pilot safe: report

      Tue Mar 22, 2011 6:04am EDT

LONDON (Reuters) - A U.S. warplane has crashed in a Libyan field after an apparent mechanical failure and its pilot has been rescued by rebels, Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on its website on Tuesday.

The plane is an F-15E Eagle, the Telegraph added in a report from a correspondent on the ground in Libya. U.S. officials were not immediately available for comment.

We like to pretend that we are captain america but I doubt we are over there actually for the purpose of help. If history is any indicator that is.
I find it odd that the french can lead anything other than a smelling bad contest.

            This just in...

On the morning of October 25, 1985, Marty meets his friend, scientist Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown, at Twin Pines Mall at 1:15 am at Doc's request. Doc reveals a DeLorean DMC-12 which he has modified into a time machine; the vehicle's time displacement is powered by plutonium which generates 1.21 gigawatts of power into a device he calls the "flux capacitor". Doc also explains that the car travels to a programmed date upon reaching 88 miles per hour. However, before Doc can make his first trip, the Libyan terrorists from whom he stole the plutonium show up and gun him down. Marty attempts to escape in the DeLorean, but, in the process, reaches the speed of 88 miles per hour and is transported back to November 5, 1955, a date Doc programmed into the DeLorean as an example destination. Marty finds himself without the plutonium needed for the trip back, and the car shuts down, leaving him stuck in 1955.

It's rare that the navy gets to do any real live fire on live targets nowadays, this is a GREAT time to be in the Navy! If your on the ships launching the attack anyways. We all know what the rest of the navy is doing :^D

In real life Doc brown would be labeled a terrorist and a plutonium smuggler. Then they would get a nice mug shot of him with his frizzy hair and paste that all over the front page of the times with the words "TRAITOR" in giant print above.

When I joined the Army back in 1988, there had been no major combat since Vietnam. They did have that little grenada thing in the 80's, then boom. 1989 invasion of panama. 1990-1991 Desert Shield / Storm. Trust me, you are not gonna wanna miss this

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I think while we are at it lets go to North Korea and bomb the hell out of them, and free those people.
