oooh, that sounds good. I'll be on the lookout for that one. I'm a tried and true GlenFiddich 15yr guy, and when I'm feeling froggy some Johnny Walker Blue. Haven't been able to talk myself into a bottle of this stuff due to the price, but if you haven't had it...it's very good.

i like blue label but find myself in the same boat as you in regards to the price, plus as much as i do like there are others i prefer that are a little cheaper but when the mood strikes.. i gotta have some blue.

I love the peaty scotches so pretty much anything from Islay is great. Laphroaig has already been mentioned and its one of my favorites, along with Ardbeg.
McClellands Islay is actually an amazing deal at $30, and a decent stand-in when you don't want to spend $70 on a bottle of the great stuff.

That's from Bowmore, or it used to be anyway. It is a great value. You used to be able to get that ~$20 around here. I don't know what it's selling for anymore. I didn't care for the McClelland highland style, but I suspect it changes according to what's available. Morrison-Bowmore probably uses it as a dumping ground for whisky that doesn't quite make the cut for their regular products, and not wanted for blending.

auchetoshan 12 year lowland single malt. very crisp and clean scotch easy to take no burn.. if you LOVE Isley's.. you may want to stay away.. if you are open to all of the malt regions worth giving a try, especially at $40-50 a bottle. slight notes of toffee chocolate some nuttiness and candied tangerine..

Powers is good. I treat Irish as a regional style of scotch. Where it's similarities are greater than it's differences, and it isn't far from the core of the tree. There's as much commonality between Irish and Speyside as there is between Islay and Speyside, and I can prefer any one of them depending on mood.

Lagavulin 16 is a mainstay in my scotch counter( yes, i have a counter devoted entirely to scotch, I'm a dork, it's ok to say it) it is pure peat and smoke and i love the stuff on a cold night sitting back and relaxing. i am also a fan of Oban and Springbank, one of the few cambletown singles still available if not the only one.

How did I not see this thread sooner?! I have tried just about every single malt and a few blended and always come back to Glenlivet. There are a couple from the Glenmorangie line that make a decent alternative. The only blended I have ever managed more than a glass of is The Dimple.
