We'll get more radiation exposure from imported food and milk that was contaminated from exposure to radiation than from any radioactive venting that makes it across the ocean.

Yah for radiation to get over here in any meaningfull quantities would be quite a feat, I am 99% sure it won't be an issue. Japan will be expecting a big loss in foriegn exports because of this incident and there will be lots of official announcements that everything is okay and safe to eat. But frankly I ain't eating nothing from Japan anymore if I can help it lol. But I stopped caring about radiation, I am pretty sure there is more toxic shit in the san francisco air than at any nuclear power plant.

So you guys don't think it matters that radiation is over japan and the south pacific. The thing is, and this is just my observation, but the fall out will effect the pacific ocean terribly. It doesn't always have to be air borne and immediate. But we do have the Mox fuel cells to deal with. This isn't good anyway you say "it won't effect me" Of all the people on this site I would figure you two would be more literate about the issue. This Is a catastrophe of the utmost proportion. I'm sorry guys, this isn't just the media calling out the boogeyman, this is waaaaay bad. We have no Idea how way bad, but it aint no 3 mile island.............. and once again I am still a proponent of nuke energy, cuz we got nothing to replace it with on the scale we need it, but that doesn't make this situation any less than it is. C'mon JT you harp about oil all the time, Now we are looking at a ****ing disaster 1000 times greater than the BP oil spill, yet you defend it? WTF?

Joe you need 2+ of these Each and every day.... to replace KiO3 tablets.
If you think a heavy salt diet "helps" then you've been born about 500 years ahead of your time.
P.S.
Just because there is salt in your diet doesn't mean it is iodized salt.....
http://www.saltinstitute.org/Uses-be...t/Iodized-salt
If you read what I posted you'd see that the pills are more effective if one is not deficient in
iodine. I never said iodized salt would replace the pills. And my salt is Morton Iodized.
Studies have shown that where iodine deficiency exists, the effectiveness of potassium iodide or iodate pills taken after a nuclear accident decreases significantly.
Iodizing salt therefore protects populations in the case of a nuclear emergency, although those exposed to radioactive iodine must still take the potassium iodide pill.

"It's more of a surrender," said David Lochbaum, a nuclear engineer who now heads the nuclear safety program for the Union of Concerned Scientists, an activist group. "It's not like you wait 10 days and the radiation goes away. In that 10 days things are going to get worse."
"It's basically a sign that there's nothing left to do but throw in the towel," Lochbaum said.

People here will get involved in relief efforts for awhile but we also get distracted and lose interest very quickly. We haven't finished cleaning up the messes left over from Katrina, the Gulf Oil spill and Haiti is all but forgotten.

U.S. military blocks popular websites for Japan recovery
By: CNN's Mark Preston and Adam Levine
WASHINGTON (CNN) - The U.S. military has blocked access to a range of popular commercial websites in order to free up bandwidth for use in Japan recovery efforts, according to an e-mail obtained by CNN and confirmed by a spokesman for U.S. Strategic Command.
The sites - including YouTube, ESPN, Amazon, eBay and MTV - were chosen not because of the content but because of their popularity among users of military computers account for significant bandwidth, according to Strategic Command spokesman Rodney Ellison.

Japan ready to ask for US military help in nuclear crisis
TOKYO - JAPAN is ready to seek cooperation with the US military as it battles to avert catastrophe at a stricken nuclear plant hit by fire and explosions as radiation levels spike, the government said on Wednesday.
Asked if Japan is ready to seek assistance from the US military at the stricken Fukushima plant, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said: 'US military cooperation is needed when necessary.
'They have already cooperated in providing logistic materials.'
He added: 'We are preparing ourselves' to arrange further cooperation. -- AFP
