I do expect that in the future smoking will have lots of consequences. Like if you smoke you will likely have to pay more for health insurance and you may find it harder to get employed etc etc. We already see it a little bit today.

Its been here for a while. Health insurance companys charge an xtra 40% more if you use tobacco products, and have for several years. Employers don't want to employ tobacco users because their group health insurance premiums will go up also.

I do have to agree with you on this though. After we left our last apartment, after smoking 3 packs per day each for 6 years, it took them days to get it livable again. They had to replace the carpets and even after 2 coats of paint, nicotine still seeped through the paint after (some friends moved in after us). At that point I made the decision we would never smoke inside again (this is 4 years before I quit).

An ozone generator will completely knock out ALL odors in the air and in materials such as carpet, drapes etc. in a few hours.

Yes, when an apartment is rented out, you should expect it to be used. That's fine if he wants to levy a surcharge for cleaning after moving, but not any more than that; certainly not legislated through the government.

I guess I didn't link the appropriate article. That refers to a private complex. Anyway, there's a place in CA that's banned smoking in apartments. I can't be arsed to look it up. I'm tired of looking up tobacco laws.

Yeah tobacco smoke does stick to stuff, cigars and cigarettes especially, honestly pipe tobacco does too especially latakia and perique but I'm inclined not to think so since my parents never smelled it. I think ex-smokers have a particularly strong sense of smell for cigarette smoke, I did when I was younger even then being pretty anti-tobacco and all I thought the indoor smoking bans were kind of stupid, when we went to europe I got used to the smell in like 2 days but other people would whine about how they were dying or some crap. Now for some reason people assume that if you smell smoke outside from fifty feet away you and your kids are going to die. These are probably the same kind of people who worry about pollution despite the removal of lead from gasoline and the invention of catalytic converters, and improvements in clean water and food (although the latter two have gone downhill a bit) it doesn't matter if NO2 and SO2 are down 70-99 percent in L.A. it should be completely clear despite the fact there was smog when the indians were living there just from wildfires and because of geography.

I'm serious about the ozone generator tho. Knocks out all odors permanently. untill you smoke again, or fart or whatever causes the foul odor.

Yeah it's a law I don't care if a landlord decides there's no smoking on his property and then he might have a 25-30 percent higher vacancy on his property I don't like the idea that the government says you can't smoke in your own home though that's ridiculous.

Whatever works. The insurance companies don't care about your life or health, only making money. Double dipping by charging the people that are saving your shareholders money more than others isn't right by any standard.

Dead people don't collect on social security, my mom works at a nursing home and the last month of life usually runs more than $150,000. It easily can go higher and before then they've probably collected at least $200,000 in social security.
