    Used to drink 5 - 6 beers daily in high school .. I was like 17 - 18..

I soon gave up when I realized that I'm hooked on alcohol... apart from shivering for two weeks I haven't had any withdrawals ...

I don;t enjoy beer that much anymore... though..

all beer is the most vile of beverages man ever made. yuck
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

On the subject of alcoholism... I knew a couple who drank 2 cases of Michelob(yuck!) between them every day. They lived in a trailer with 2 kids. Their boss(a small burger joint) gave them money to get their kids xmas presents one year, and they got them dollar store crap. The kids were happy with that because they didn't have shit, but I found it all very sad. Those 2 were drinking the most expensive mass produced beer available in large quantities, and their kids get crappy dollar store toys that were probably full of lead for xmas. I can understand on some level being an alcoholic, and REQUIRING alcohol every day, but to completely ignore your responsibilities to do so is...well... irresponsible. WTH is wrong with vodka, or maybe some cheap brand of beer? That would be like be buying a couple ROLLS of Kardus every year for daily use instead of something more reasonable.

Yah, unless your rich, alcoholics can't really afford the good beer. Gotta buy the bulk cases from walmart lol.

It's all about the Steele Reserve and tang combo baby! Countless bums across the nation have seen their lives improved by tom's invention. I think we should make t-shirts.

No, I don't believe 30-packs are sold around here. Then again, as LX pointed out, I don't drink beer-flavored club soda, or Bud Lite as they call it. 24-packs and half racks are the norm. or 18 packs of cans.

Precious, alcohol withdrawal from 5-6 beers per day? You seem awfully susceptible to this idea of addiction... I'm not criticizing, everyone is different, just an observation. On topic, beer is virtually harmless for me. I love it and drink it all the time with no ill effects. Hard alcohol, on the other hand, is a monster. The older I get, the more I think I should do away with it entirely, which, for the most part, I have. But goddamn I love me a tasty, strong beer or several.

Edit for LX: Michelob is expensive? Who the hell drinks Michelob anyway. What a wussy beer

I was buying 40's of 211 steele reserve for about $6 for 2 40's each day. At the end of the month it came out to almost $200.

Since I quit drinking, i've saved a lot of money. I never realized how much it costed me. I am still seriously considering quitting snus just to save the extra money, because i'm a jew like that. I love snus, and snus makes my whole day better, but $150 a month is kind of expensive for me. I may buy something if there is a bargain but after I finish these last few rolls in my freezer, I may try to quit all together.

It's all about the Natty ice baby! lol.

I am the same, beer for me has little effect, but that's probably because I have the genetics for it. I would drink 4 40's a day, or kill a 24 pack in a night sometimes. When I was in the army I would plow through nearly 20 beers a night EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for a year or more at a time. It was pretty hardcore, and I felt like shit all the time, but I never suffered withdrawls.

Man, I hope they figure this stem cell thing out before I turn 40, or else i'm in trouble.

I'm the same as you though Roo, hard liquor kills me and really hurts my body. I can drink beer like it's water, but hard alcohol gets me over the top with just a few shots. Plus it makes me completely lose control, whch isn't a good thing.

I highly doubt anyone on the planet could get withdrawls from 5-6 beers a night, but I suppose it's possible (sucks for you though!). I was drinking that at 18, then I stopped drinking all together for a while and it never affected me. I guess it's just my body, I don't really feel withdrawls from anything regardless of how much I do it.

What I meant was it's "Budweiser class" expensive. When you get beyond Michelob, you're in another class of beer altogether. I hate the stuff, and I've gotten much less snobby about beer over time. It has a disgusting winey flavor that almost instantly makes me feel sick to my stomach. If I saw anything else in the cooler with Michelob, I'd go for anything else 100% of the time. If Michelob was all that was there, I'd drink water.

I cannot drink hard liquor anymore. Last time I woke up in the fetal position with a trail of vomit in down my bathtub.

I do like beer, and drink one every day or so, but the calories add up and at the moment I cannot support beer in a healthy diet.

Yah, i've also lost 10 lbs since I stopped drinking. I stopped drinking because of my medication my Dr has me on, which makes me eat twice as much. So even though i've doubled my calorie intake, cutting beer has still resulted in a significant weight loss. Every beer is like eating a big mac, I don't care what anyone says. Drink 2x 40's a night and it's like having an extra 2 meals added to your day.

Sgreger1, as an avid beer drinker I must take issue with your Big Mac statement. Beer is fat-free, and the caloric content is anywhere from 125 to 500 for hardcore stouts and the like. Sure, it's not good for you to put back a 6'er every night, but it's nowhere near as detrimental as eating 6 Big Macs lol. The beer shows on my belly, but it doesn't hold a candle to what 42 big macs a week would do to me.

Not sure that I could actually eat 42 big macs in a week. I certainly would not attempt it unless you hold the pickles, then maybe.

I hate alcohol. And understand I try to abstain from saying "I hate" about anything.

Just watching what it has done to my family, what it almost did to me. 2.5 years now without it and as I see constant incidents around me as a gigging musician and seeing the impact in other family members and friends, well I just get constant reminders that I don't miss it.

No I am not calling for a new era of prohibition but we have done so much to stigmatize cigarettes and tobacco as society maybe we should look at stigmatizing alcohol. Mass drinking not only seems an accepted part of college life but just about encouraged as a right of passage in our society. I just don't think that our society in general recognizes how destructive alcoholism can be.

Just ranting, sorry, have a good Wednesday everyone.

Anything can be bad when it's abused or over used. I have a close relative who doesn't drink, smoke or do ANYTHING considered harmful, who was hospitalized because she drank too much water! Water! She loves water and she drank too much of it one day. She lives in the South, where it's very hot. She thought she was having a heart attack and wound up in the hospital. Test results showed that she was drinking too much water... Go figure...

Too much of anything is bad, but that doesn't mean we should ban it. Even too much water can be bad for you.
