Holy crap! You mean cigarettes are BAD for you? This is the first I ever heard of it.

The irony is EVERYONE already knows cigarettes are bad and yet they don't stop. Now they are trying to get people to be embarrassed by the packaging, kind of like "shame on you". If they put a picture of an aging orangutans cancerous bleeding testicle ulcer on a tin of snus I would still happily pop in my portion. This like everything else short of a firing squad will do little to deter smokers.

For long-term old school smokers, I don't know that this will have much effect. Most of us chose to quit though; my guess is because we started to notice health effects on our own bodies. I know I noticed that I couldn't breathe as well, and also noticed the toll it took on my father. There are still those, however, who refuse/are unable to quit even after noticing those effects. I work with someone with emphysema who still refuses to stop.

I wonder, though...if the first pack of Marlboros I hid in the back of my sock drawer when I was 15 had a picture of a guy with a hole in his neck, would I have picked up the habit? Maybe this plan WILL work for those first-time teenagers. Then again, I thought I was bulletproof when I was 15...

The middle east has similar warnings but they are much more gruesome. It's hilarious!

        For EXAMPLE...

I read somewhere that smokers actually crave cigarettes when they view graphic warning labels. Perhaps this is all a conspiracy to keep people smoking. I'm going to call Jesse Ventura and see what he thinks about this.

My girlfriend's dad lives in Brazil and they have graphic warnings like the ones posted above. Interestingly, I got a kick out of them, and I was still a smoker at the time. They didn't make me want to quit. My dad dying at the age of 59 from a heart attack made me quit.

I thought I saw these kind of picture warnings in Canada. Maybe some Canadian members will chime in.

Is that a before picture of Xobeloot in picture number 10?
When did he shave his head and get contacts?

How much real estate will these pictures take up on the package?

Will I even know what brand I'm buying? Or will I have to say, "give me a pack of 'incubator babies'." or "I'll take a pack of 'tracheotomy puffers'?"

Some stores look at me funny now when I ask for "Lights" and they just stopped labeling them that way last year.

Why is the White guy a skin head, but the poor, smoke riddled infants and crying lady are black? The dead guy and the stroke victim are White. Is this going to be the difference between menthol and regular? THAT'S RACIST! If I can't buy a pack of Marlborough's with a preemie-baby on them I'm calling Jesse Jackson. I want to know whether those lungs came from Europeans or Asians. This kind of race bating and subliminal stereotyping is inexcusable!
They're trying to divide us. I know the tactics.

I'm not Canadian, but I travel there often, I bought a pack of Marlboro lights in Niagara Falls ON last year, I was so disgusted I had to take a picture of them!

I saw that news on Yahoo today. What was funny is that someone posted a comments below the article that politicians should also come with the same warning labels.

So who do you suppose these idiot savants are that don't know cigarettes are bad for you, but do know what carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide, and benzene are, and what their implications are for health?

The government should just ban cigarette production if they were that concerned about smoking. But they don't. Why?? They are feeding off of addiction. They know these ads won't do a damn thing to stop anyone who wants to smoke from smoking. They know nic addicts will continue to feed that craving regardless of their stupid ass warnings which are designed to keep the anti-smoking Nazi's happy while they suck more money out of the economy and create more dependence on nanny stateist assholes. Some of us discover alternatives, like SNUS, and they attack that! PACT Act!! I'm glad I don't have to smoke anymore and can still enjoy tobacco, but this kind of crap really pisses me off!

All the comments here covered what I was going to say.. I'll add this. Why arent there pictures of drunk driving accidents on liqour bottles? Or pics of livers that have serosis however you spell it.
