I tried the cigarette a little early so it was a little harsh, (nothing a little aging won't fix). As a cigarette they have plenty of nicotine. I wouldn't call them strong, but I wouldn't call them weak either. This variety has a slightly higher level of nicotine when compared to common flue cured Virginia.

American cigarettes are usually a blend of Virginia, Burley and Oriental, Canadian cigarettes usually only use one tobacco... Virginia.
And what is (or was) the most popular Virgina tobacco in Canadian cigarettes?....... DelGold.

I already started the cook, snus is doing it's thing in the crockpot. I'll update when it's done.

I still have some leaves that need additional color curing outside. This is about 80% of my crop. I have stripped out the midrib to save space so I can fit everything in containers for aging purposes. The yellow/green bucket is about 7 pounds of midrib (stem) that has been cut up into small pieces. The test batch that I did was about 30% stem by weight so you're looking at 17.5 +/- pounds of lamina. with about 3 more buckets worth still hanging under the eaves.

This is what the sucker crop looks like so far. I'm not going spend a lot of time to top and sucker it. They range in size from tiny to decent size plants. I probably have another month left of growth before I harvest them. The sucker crop will give me a shitload of additional seeds.

Amazing JT. If tobacco were the dharma, you would be the Tethagata Himself and this would be me (I'm the bald one):

I'm not happy with the taste yet. So for the time being I'm blending it 50/50 with whatever lössnus I'm currently using. Right now I'm using 50% Ettan mixed with 50% homemade.

So far I've blended it with Ettan, LD and Montecristo. Sometime next week I'll have finsihed off the last of batch 13 and start a new cook with a new recipe to see if I can make a stand alone homemade good enough to use by itself.

The stems should be included in the blend! about 45% stem & 55% lamina! orelse the snus will be to strong and to bitter.
you can read more here on how to make the snus (i have made that recipe) http://att-tillverka-eget-snus.blogs...obaksmjol.html in Swedish but you can translate it in google translate

Thanks for the tip Jimmy. I'm using your advice for my cook which is underway.

My 2010 crop has matured for a year, so I spent the last day grinding all the stem into flour. The lamina I will grind as needed.

Since lamina makes up a greater percentage, the limiting factor using your 45/55 ratio will be the stem. I ended up with about 2500 grams of stem from my 2010 DelGold crop. That's enough for 55 batches of snus, (using my 100 gram tobacco flour batches), that's enough for at least 330 cans of snus.

Just make a few smaller batches to find your specific perfect recipe, so you wont end up with a big batch you wont like in the end.
in the industry the tobacco blend can contain up to 20 different tobaccos & stems that is mostly for the chemicals to be as we want it to be (low TSNA and so on) but also for keeping the bitterness low and for the whole pallete of flavors to be as we want it.. (one more tip is also to keep atleast 15% of the Tobacco/stem in a "Dust" fraction "under 0,1 mm" this is when you make a pinch it will stay better together.

Keep us updated on your interesting project
