I am very interested in finding un-cured tobacco especially in the USA. I would think you could talk to a tobacco farmer and arrange something. I just don't know any tobacco farmers...yet!

Stokers sells some big hunks of tobacco. Not sure what it's all about, but I think one of them is air dried(or cured).

I think you can substitute the much safer glycerol for propylene glycol. Also a lot easier to procure

Maybe you could buy from auction like the big boys do. The minimum quantity could be too great though. I really don't know much about it.

PG and VG are equally safe. PG is used in asthma inhalers every day for decades. It's in your toothpast, some mouth wash, many foods.

Just bought some seeds from here..
              http://www.virtualseeds.com/HGtobacco2.html

I selected the "TA28 SMALL STALK BLACK MAMMOTH"

Here are some flavorings and tobacco treatments to consider...

Found a source for air and fire leaf tobacco. http://www.fredstokerandsons.com/page2.htm for a catalog. Just in case you're looking for a source. Here's a pic:

When I try and go to that page it makes me want to sign up for a catalog.
After filling in the info (with bogus data), it just comes back to a page that tells me I am going to be sent a catalog.

They don't do online sales AFAIK, and they aren't carried in many B&M shops. You generally have to go through their catalog if you want their stuff.

I'm in the make snus at home club. 8)

My first batch is in the oven.
I'm going to go for a 48 hour cook.
2pm Monday snus was @ 82ยฐC (I'm using this as my start time)
                        3pm Monday snus was @ 84ยฐC

I'm shooting for 85-90ยฐC, but you don't want to go over 90 or you get that burnt taste, so I'm playing it conservative about raising the temperature.

Good luck man. You wanna trade me a little for some of my DIY portions?

I'm moving away from portions. I'm using less than a can of portions a week and I already have 40+ cans of portions in freezer as it is. :?

But on that note, did you see the announcement on Swedmax?
                            - Portion snus coming December 1st. -

                            http://www.swedmax.se/

I bought a bottle of Everclear to use with my essential oils and I've got some pure smoke flavoring on the way.

I've got my first kit on the way, ordered from OnlySnus, but I think I may order from SwedMax next time. For something like the everclear, would you put that in the snus before or after the oven? Once I've managed to make some plain snus without causing a disaster, I was thinking of trying to make a batch with some 18 year old scotch I have in the freezer.

I'm only using Everclear as a carrier for the essential oils so the flavor is spread throughout the batch. The alcohol evaporates away leaving only the flavor. It's the very last step, after the cooking and after you've adjusted the pH.

In your case your Scotch would your essential (oil) + alcohol combined. I haven't figured out how to use Scotch yet. As far as how much to use. 80 proof would be 40% alcohol and 60% water. If you use too little you won't taste it, if you use too much you'll have snus soup.
