    Spit-tobacco ?

Is spit-tobacco (as seen in the westernmovies and baseball) just wrapped tobacoleaves? And whats in them that makes your spit run faster ?

    Anyone use it ?

Copenhagen and Skoal are the most famous dip tobaccos, longcut, lower lip so more saliva and it's flavored differently. If you swallow it you will get sick. That's why they spit the juice.

Pretty much... Chewing tobacco is also spit tobacco, and is probably what you see in the movies, and many times in baseball. That's a fairly wet leaf tobacco which is quite sweet. You place that in the side of your cheek, and it produces huge quantities of juice(saliva). You don't really chew it per se, but compress it every so often to get more flavor.

If you're familiar with Oliver Twist; it would be like taking 3 tins of that, unwrapping the twists, then putting it all in your mouth.

Sounds a bit crazy imo. That must be a insane nicotin boost.

I don't notice it tbh. I guess the ph is low, so you don't absorb as much nicotine. I'll get leaf chew once a year or so. It's really an outdoor activity imo. There's way too much spit for me to deal with it indoors :^D

I have one that I got years ago, but I think it's more for decoration than actual use. Besides, cleaning... Yuk! Maybe I could scam my daughter into cleaning them :^D

                    But i still wonder:

                    1. Why is "dip" considered more harmfull than snus?
                    2. What exactly makes you wanne spit when using it. If i put a double portion of snus behind my lower lip, i maybe get a little more spit in my mouth but not as much as i feel a need for spitting it out?

                      1. fermented tobacco that used to be cured over a smoke fire
Dip has come a long way, it's much much safer than it used to be, it's "almost" as safe as Swedish snus now.

                      2. try putting 2 grams of lössnus in your lower lip and see how much saliva you have.

I don't know where the 'Dog is (he'd usually be all over a question like this), but, in his stead, allow me to refer you to The Dipper's Guide to Snus. He's got some info over there regarding the difference between snus and dip.

Also, of note, may be Snusdog's Deep Cover thread.

Also, my lip got that old feeling- I can’t explain it except that it was like an addict getting a fix of something after being dry a long time. There was something in the dip that I had not had in a long time. My lip recognized it. I could feel it and I could feel its effect. It was not Nicotine. I dipped for well over 25 years. Today, I chain snus, while using snuff (often American Scotches), and sometimes I’ll even throw in a pipe of a strong English blend for good measure. And when I say that I use snus while snuffing while smoking a pipe I mean that I am using them all at the same time- The point is that Nicotine and I have met. It wasn’t the nicotine. There is added crap in American dip that IS the primary source of the fix you get. Dip and Snus are two very different birds.

Your saying theres other addicting agents in dip other than nicotine? People say the same thing about cigarettes.
