    Massachusetts?

I just received this email reply from GetSnus "Correct, we are not allowed to ship to Massachusetts anymore due to the pact act. We are very sorry about that."

    WTF?

First let me say this, the process of getting us ready for PACT has shown me one thing; that the gov't wasn't ready to implement this new law. Most of the states that I spoke to didn't even know what PACT was, a few did, and a couple just didn't care, lol. States are set up to have wholesalers, and then retailers. They don't really have a category for webshop that acts as both, so many of these states simply didn't know what to do with us. Some said, "no sweat, just pay the taxes and we're cool", and some said, "hell no, you're not allowed to sell your wares here". Iowa, Mass. and South Dakota were part of that last group, yes...I said were.

Okay, South Dakota is out. We will not be able to sell Swedish snus to anyone in South Dakota via our website. So, if you live in South Dakota and want Swedish snus, please contact me asap and I'll do everything I can to set up a wholesale account with a local retailer so that you can buy from them.

Iowa-they don't really have a law prohibiting us from selling, but they don't know how to deal with us. I have a meeting on Monday with them to iron this one out. After a call from our attorney they seem a bit more "willing" to work it out. I will update this thread accordingly once I know something. So until we get this squared away, we won't be able to sell to Iowa residents, but it won't be too long.

Massachusetts-They flat out said no to us intitially, citing "no brick and mortar, then no selling via the internet". After the attorney spoke to them, we find out that it's not so much that we don't have a brick and mortar, but that they didn't know what to do with us. After speaking with our attorney they are willing to let us sell via the internet, but we have a few more hoops to jump through with them to get licensed. Once we get our distribution license, we will again be selling to Mass. For now, we cannot, but be patient as it shouldn't be too long. Thanks everyone.
    A possible temporary solution:

Great for the occasional parcel! You'll have to make sure your CC
company has the UPS Store authorized on your card as a shipping
    address, though.

I'd call an accessible/closest UPS Store in the next state over and get
all the details; I think these are franchises (à la Mailbox Etc) so there
    may be some policy variances.

I just checked out the UPS website and the Hold for Pickup option states there is no charge. They will hold it for five days and most packages are available for pickup by 8:30am on the scheduled day of delivery. Even if it does cost three bucks that still worth it for those of us that might not be home when its delivered. I wonder how one goes about the process of sending it a UPS store for pickup?

Call the UPS Store you want to deal with and get the details.

You'll have to make sure your CC company has the UPS Store
address authorized on your card as a shipping address.

That's crazy how certain states are banning tobacco shipments.

This is definitely not what our government was founded on...

Lets hope PACT goes the way of prohibition.

I am assuming since getsnus/northerner have a physical U.S. presence that they are bound to the laws of the PACT more so than those out of the country.

IMO this is temporary. If the overseas vendors do not comply, as In understand it, they will be added to a non-compliant vendor list and their packages will not be deliverable by anyone. In addition, if USPS is used it will be a crime for the consumer too.

Tried to do a dummy order with Northerner. In the bar to choose country and state, Massachusetts is not listed.

                            yeah...

there are other threads concerning our (MA) issue but the link above kinda puts everything in a nutshell.

hopefully rickcharles will have an update for us in a couple days.

in the meantime I placed an order using a RI UPS Store --- hopefully it will ship tomorrow!!

btw, searching snuson is a bitch...
