Buysnus vs. Northerner

I feel like such an idiot. Been ordering from Northerner for like 2 years and recently been really frustrated with my orders taking a long time to arrive, coming in separate packages, the prices on tax and shipping skyrocketing since PACT and also the g-dam government warning stickers. But I had kind of settled on Northerner and was frequently accruing enough points for bonus merchandise or free rolls. They had me locked in as a repeat once a month orderer for no other reason than "It has always worked"

Well, after delays in delivery, separate packages, increasing prices, etc - I said screw it and lets try buysnus (helped by positive comments on this forum, so thank you all, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster)

Did my normal order of a roll of General portions. Shit! Price is a lot less! Shipping options confusing as they both guarunteed the same delivery date but were 3 dollars different. I went for the cheaper. Hot damn.... the snus arrives in 4 days in San Francisco from the order being placed, all the way from Sweden, with no US stickers covering the cans telling me my jaw was going to rot and fall off. And you know what? the stuff was so much richer and flavorful and moist compared to the expensive crap I was getting from Northerner that was taking forever to arrive from their "usa warehouse".

I'm not the type of person who usually rants about stuff online, I just get on with life. But I feel like such an idiot that I had placed orders with Northerner since PACT. More expensive, longer wait, bad shipping procedures, dried out snus. How crazy is this!!

Anyways, just felt strong enough about this that I needed to post so others wouldn't get screwed over.

P.S: I was a fan of Ettan portions, then reverted back to General. Have tried a ton of portions and don't like any flavored stuff or strong (nicotine level) regular snus. What else would people recommended to an Ettan/General guy? I used to dip Copenhagan so like strong natural flavours.

Now you just need to remember to pay the federal tobacco tax with your next tax return. Don't forget that you will also need to pay the California tobacco tax before the end of the quarter. You will need to fill out one form to register and another form to actually pay the tax. Don't forget to attach all invoices. Also, don't be late or try not to pay the tax as you may face heavy fines and penalties if you are caught.

Clark, I would also check out SnusCentral and their pricing, When you place an order from them it is shipped from Buysnus. I would also recommended that you try Grov portions if you are an Ettan/General guy..

The thing with Northerner, is they have to play by USA rules, All taxes are taken upfront, so it'll cost more. I don't know about the rest of the stuff, I haven't made an order in awhile. By supporting Northerner, you're supporting snus in the USA, both online, and B&M. There's a chance that other snus shops could be shut down in the future, and Northerner will be the only choice if they're still in the biz. I honestly don't think that'll happen, but it is a possibility. You could also get nailed for back taxes. Again, I don't think it's likely, but who knows?

In the end, you have to do what's right for you. There's good reasons to use both shops. You need to decide what fits better.

On the snus, try Grov. The portions are kind of similar to Ettan portions, but better. You may like Gotland yellow, but it has a distinctive taste. I love it, but not everyone does.

I'm in the same boat as tcperu. While Northerner is a great site that plays by the rules, Buysnus offers snus at a much lower price, but involves the risk of being slapped with heavy fines. I still don't know which site I will place my next order from.

Im really thinking of trying SnusCentral/Buysnus out. I have had only a few problems with my orders but my latest order has me a little pissed. Ordered some Julesnus and had a stated arrival ship date of Nov 2. Now its saying Nov 12. I ordered other snus on this order and ticked the box to not separate my order up into different shipments. In addition to Julesnus not being instock yet I have three other snus's that are not in stock in either. So im stuck using camel snus until I get my shipment. Man o man am I getting sick of the camel snus. Given the price increases the stupid labeling and freshness factors not to mention when I get my newest order will directly influence if I stay with Northerner.

i buysnus all the time. everything he said is true except mine only takes about three days to arrive. and as far as taxes go, of course i pay my taxes. its really easy to do. heck i pay my own payroll taxes every quarter, pay income taxes at end of the year, pay sales tax every time i buy something. my dog started an ice cream tax. so now every time I get any ice cream i have to give her a scoop. seriously everything he said is true and this is not my first post.

I was just so stoked to get fresh snus so quickly from Sweden, after waiting double if not triple the amount of time for it to be sent to me from Pennsylvania. Just find it incredible.

Thnaks for the suggestions about Grov, yes, I like thta one too. Also find that 01 is similar to my taste preferences.

Already posted another question in a seperate sub-forum, but I loved Lucky Strike portions and just realized you can't order them from the USA anymore. Thats too bad.

The only advice I can give is don't burn your bridges with Northerner. You might need them some day. They can't help it that, being in the USA, that they have to abide by the law. There may come a time when Uncle Sam clamps down on overseas UPS shipments and then you'll be left without a source for your snus.

In the 2 years I've been snusing I've used GetSnus (When SM owned them), Northerner, Buysnus and OnlySnus (no web sales atm). they've all treated me fairly.

I only buy from buysnus now. My favorite snus costs 1.00 more a can from Northerner and thats even before taxes, so it costs even more than 1.00 a can more buying 30 cans at a a time. I like the idea of a US warehouse, but there is no reason I should pay 1.00 extra a can for it.

Even something as common as General white portion I can get locally for 3.70 a can sells for nearly 1.00 more on Northerner, counting tax since I am charged that by the store too, but not including shipping, if I added that it would be another 50 cents a can on 30 cans.

I refuse to overpay for my habit, I dont care how noble the cause. There is plenty of profit in tobacco without overcharging for it. You believers can keep paying extra for your habit, I wont for mine. I'll grow my own if I have to dammit!

I always order from buysnus. They have a nice selection and its always here in 3 to 4 days. I price all my orders with snuscentral and getsnus to see what is going to be cheaper. snuscentral is and buysnus is usually only + or - $1.00 so since i already have points with buysnus i stick with them. getsnus on the other hand is always more expensive so i have never ordered from them so i cant speak on what there shipping is like. Ordering from buysnus is completely safe according to there posting. All duties and taxes are taken care of already so i guess it must already be included in the pricing. Here is part of what they say: • We pay the appropriate duties and government fees since we use UPS DDP (Delivery & Duty Paid). If you as a customer should be contacted by a local authority to pay taxes or fees please contact us. We promise you that we’ll sort this out without any problems for you.

I've had quite a few issues with Northerner too, but things are straightening up. ;-)

It took a whole month for one of my packages to arrive from U.S to Europe (when I've ordered DIP)

I'm not sure why they don't have Copenhagen dip in the EU warehouse anyways...

Once they've sent me 2 whole rolls of portions when I clearly order los.

Once a package didn't arrive from EU at all but in the end they've re-shipped it.

The last two orders arrived on time though ... 4 days max from Sweden to Romania.

Buysnus.com has a slightly more expensive shipping cost, the difference isn't all that huge on the overall price of the orders.
