    Pre bake

    Just wondering,
Do you guys pre bake a few before hand or just bake as needed?
Was just thinking, if I bake 4 or 5 ahead of time, could just toss em in when needed, no fiddling around in public. Do you guys ever pre bake?

Not in normal usage but yes.

If I'm going to be driving and I don't want to stop to bake. or

When you get towards the end of the can it's easier to dump out the rest and prebake what is left then to try and get the very last crumbs.

To be honest, I never thought of doing this before. But like the idea. Might have to set up a little icetool factory assembly line.

I have never really thought of that, either. Good idea. I think I'll try it when my currently opened tin gets to around half empty. 8)

I've done it. They hold up great IMO.

I've thought about doing it, but decided against it. Part of using loose is the ritual of scooping some out and then handbaking a pris. As for when I'm out and have no time to bake, I just use portions. Then again, I'm mainly a portion guy anyways. The only time I use loose is when I'm alone at home, so handbaking is no problem for me when I want loose.

I did this when i was trying Los out! It is a great way to be able to have ready made pris in situations where you can't really use your hands to touch the snus to much. you just gotta pop one in and your good! they taste and hold up just as well as freshly baked pris IMO!

Do you normally then keep them somewhere stationary like the fridge?

I usually have my "in-use" can in my pocket and would think the pre-bakes may begin to break down due to the vibration of daily activity.

I'll give it a shot tonight and see how it works out.

I've done that for quite a while actually, and do take it one step further. When I make some ahead of time, I also wrap them with the cheesecloth like I mentioned in another thread, and then put them in snack-sized ziplock bags. I'll make a dozen or so of a flavor at a time.

Sometimes I'll pre bake a few in case I'm in a hurry. Thanks for the tip sheilalynn. I'll have to try the cheesecloth thing for my wife as she's a little afraid to try the los. Sneaky, huh? For all I know she'll try it that way and be hillbilly dippin' in a week. 8)

Ok, I was sitting here with my can of Roda Lacket los, my only los I have at this time, with 2 pris in on both sides, I used my homemade "icetool" with. I decided I'd try to pre-bake some pris by hand, so I had an empty Ettan portion can, so I made up about 6 of them. I have seen many make the standard tubular roll shape pris, and a ball, but those don't seem comfortable to me, so mine are round and sorta thick, but more like a sucrets losenge in shape. I'll use one tomorrow.

Tom, I make mine like a pez candy almost...sounds like yours but rectangular instead of round. It stays in place well, is easy to handbake, and packs nice.

Cool. I have done the Pez shape too, and it has worked well, though sometimes would break in half when inserting. I need to work on insertion technique too. I could have done one of the pre-bakes now, as I took off work today, but I already put a Claq Qui in. I'll try some later. I wanted to form it so it was not too thick, but thick enough, and equal in size enough to not break in half. We'll see how it works. If it does work well, the concept, I can change the shape if needed, I like the idea of pre-baking.

Yeah, the round saucer-like pris didn't work well, I had to mash them into a thinner rectangle. What I find hard, is getting it in. I was holding my lip open, and finally got it OK. I hate it when a los pris sticks to your teeth. But the pre-bake worked great, and the pris' were firm and good to go the next day. I think I'll pre-make 6-7 at a time and put them in another can, and refill it when those are out. I haven't been using los much lately, but this really makes it easier to me.

I applaud you all in your efforts to become smoke free. However, I have come to snus by a different rout and so I want to share my experiences with all those x-dippers who may be looking at this site for suggestions and direction to get started.
