I keep a general portion lid on my paperboard los cans. It fits tighter than the original lids, grips the wax better and keeps it moist even in the Florida heat.
Plus, I have a place to stick a portion for meetings and whatnot in the uped portion lid.
I like to dump my loose into an empty plastic portion tin when I get it. I find it stays much more moist and consistent while I've had cardboard cans where the edges are dry as rock and the center is still perfectly moist.
^^I'm well aware the non-plastic loose cans are waxed to seal in moisture, but I go through my loose fairly slowly (about a can every 5 to 8 days) and find the plastic containers help them stay fresher past the 4-days-open mark. I also rarely refrigerate them, plus i usually have a can of loose on me during the day and only like to have one open at a time, and I find the plastic more resilient for carrying. To each his own, of course.
you cant beat gotlands cans. I mean, sure people have been storing tobacco in waxed cans for hundreds of years, in the same way that people had been riding horses for hundreds of years until someone invented the automobile.
The cardboard cans have maybe three days in them at best, and if you are a huge pussy like me, and it takes you nigh a week to polish off 45 grams of baccy, that just doesn't cut it. The only real advantage to those cardboard jobs is on the manufacturers end, as I am sure they are cheaper.
But yeah, that's the best way to keep los moist: put it in a plastic can.
Hey a good tip for you guys
dont know if it has been mentioned on this forum before but if your snus gets dry try putting a cucumber slice in the tin and let it sitt for a while
that should get it nice and moist again.

Welcome and thanks for the tip. Stick around and teach us more. I see you're from the headquarters of true snus... ->> Sweden.
I don't understand some people's experiences with cardboard cans lasting 3 days. I agree that plastic cans retain moisture longer, but I've had Ettan and General los in my fridge for weeks and the snus is fine. If I had left it out I could maybe understand, but I take a pris of Ettan maybe every other day at best and the snus is still great after a long time. Does yours really go dry in a matter of days? I had some General ES los dry up on my recentlly but it took me a couple months to finish it, while the plastic can varieties I've kept for like 5 months with no problems, so I do see the point, just wondering if anyone really notices a difference after a few days and how you are storing it.
Propylene Glycol has some interesting properties.. It's mixed into snus to help regulate it's humidity and consistency. PG will regulate humidity around 70%, taking water out of the air as needed to keep 70%. This is why a 50/50 solution of PG and Water is used to charge cigar humidors.
It's federally regulated as food safe, and often used by pharmacists in preparation of medicated syrups to be taken orally.
your snus also contains it. my lös doesn't dry out in wax containers, and i open/shut them and keep a can for a week or two at a time.
So, I'm trying my second Kronan portion, on my third day with real swedish snus. I really want to like this stuff - the flavor is great (at first,) lemony...
