Afraid of the new possibly excruciating "snus ban"

    Well, make it yourself!

All you need is raw tobacco, glycerine, water, salt, Sodium carbonate, and some bottles of your own chosen flavor of choice and we're cooking!

This means there is no need to be afraid of the new regulations when you can make it cheaper and made after your own criterions!

Wonder if you can buy bulk tobacco leaves. Might be something to try!

Complete base of finely grounded raw tobacco of selected types and needed ingredients. (Read above)

1kg of finely grounded tobacco makes about 2.5kg of snus.

In the preparations you'll need: oven, blender, thermometer + measuring cup.

Quick and easy cooking makes finished snus in 36 hours.

      1. Pour the grounded tobacco powder in a container and blend the salt dissolved in water in the mix. Blend and pour the snus blend in a platic container and set your oven to 95 degrees celcius (205 F) for 24 hours.

      2. After 24 hours, pour the snus blend back into the first container and blend in the sodium carbonate dissolved in water. Blend and thereafter pour it back in the plastic container and put it in the oven for 12 hours.

      3. After a total of 36 hours, leave the snus to "swell" (you know, like when you bake bread with yeast). After this, put the snus blend back in the first container, and put in glycerine and propylene glycol and blend in again (if you want additional flavors, put them in now).

After this you only have to put in in a container, or separate it in snus boxes. The blend is now ready for use, but will be even better after stored cold (fridge) for about one week.

There should be some tobacco farmers especially in the countryside.

In Sweden at least, this is non-taxable and makes for super cheap snus.
Using Swedish rates, I figured it's about 400 swedish crowns = 52 dollars for 2.5 kilograms of snus. At 45 gram per snus, this makes for about $0.94 per tin.

I would actually try to make my own before I would go back to smoking!

Being in North Carolina, I could only assume that one could find some tobacco from somewhere.

Now just to find the flavors I like to make it :P

The glycerol makes the snus easier to bake, and the sodium makes it more powerful in taste.

If I went that route, I'd probably try growing it myself also. MD is a traditional tobacco state, but most of the tobacco farming is on the eastern shore where the soil is sandier. It would be a fun project in any case :^)

^ Well anyways, I mean if they do ever ban it, it would seem, after looking through you collection pictures that you would eventually start making it yourself! Seems like harvesting tobacco is too much work for too little results, and by the looks of it, the tobacco made pr plant is too little, so you'd need to have a big crop to supply for yourself for a year.

But if you have a big farm or something and the time required, please - try it and tell us how it went! :P

                  Any idea on the ratios?

I thought about growing it. Actually, if the economy goes to shit that's what I would do

Imagine what people would pay for some great tobacco? Hell, you could make it through a depression by growing and selling it :P

For 500 grams of grounded tobacco, you'll need about 7-8 decilitres of water, (23.7 - 27 ounces), 80 grams of salt, 40 of the sodium, and and a 5 cl mix with even ratios between the glycerine and propylene glycol.

Thereafter you need about 2.5 centilitres of whichever aroma you prefer.

Now just to dig up the flavors needed for Goteborgs No2 and some tobacco and I will be snug as a bug if the ban comes in :P

                          36 hours? That's a lot of baking.
Maybe I'll try it in the microwave.

You know that fresh ammonia smell everyone bitches about?

You don't want to make snus in your kitchen. You make a snus oven and bake it outside or in your garage. The hardest part to get right is the tobacco blend and grind it to the right size.

                              I've got it.
                              My granddaughters Easy Bake Oven.
I'll put it on the deck outside. It'll be the perfect size to make one can at a time.
