    Methods and techniques

When you're not using the ice tool, how do you pack the snus before you put it under your lip?

I use the classic method with three fingers in the box, bake it in my hand, and then I shape it with my 2 thumbs and pointing fingers.

    Other good methods?

OK, but I mean like if you're not using portion or the icetool. Or is it just in Norway it's normal to "bake" the loose cut snus?

I used to bake my snus too, but I don't know is it so handy actually. I am master to make balls and bars, but still I make better snus with Icetool even faster and without getting my hands dirty. I can easily say that I use more snus nowadays because of Icetool, so well it fits to me.

Skruf Bjelle ... bake few snus and check under your fingernails

Fastest baking method to me was three finger pyramid, but I don't like the shape so much than balls & bars, and can even compare to Icetool portion.

            Damn I like snus!

I bake it with three fingers aswell. Make barrel-shaped portions.
I tried to cut off the end of a shot(?) (sprøyte) to make a portioner-tool, but if I pushed too far, it would crunch the snus under my lip. I prefer to bake it with my fingers.

I love my Icetool, it really helps a lot. I use a very small amount of snus, usually just to the first mark, and pressure it quite tight against my fingertip before "injecting" it under my upper right or left lip using the Icetool. The I shape it by pressing against the outside of my lip.

i've only ordered snus twice - about 15 tins of pouches the first time, and about 20 tins of loose this time (and a couple more of pouches as well). Because I wasn't sure that I would like loose snus, I bought a Pris Master instead of an Icetool.

Although I like the conveniance of the Pris Master, to get the right shape and density, I prefer to shape the snus with my hands rather than use the Pris Master.

I think I'll be getting an Icetool the next time I order snus!

So i guess the icetool makes a better baked portion, then? I usually use portionsnus but just bought some landströms grov, which is only loose, and it is very nice, but I find my portions turn a bit soft and I end up with snus in my teeth and swallowing some, etc. Maybe I just need practice baking a portion? Would people recommend an icetool to make stronger portions?

I think it's a matter of opinion! I find that the Icetool works perfectly for me. I was never able to get a nice baked portion by hand or with the Prismaster (too messy, too). I push the loose snus out of the tin into the Icetool until it's firmly packed, then I place my finger over the end and push against the plunger to pack it even tighter. I then hold my lip up, put the Icetool in, and pop the dose into place. I have to use the tip of my tongue to push it higher, then I form it from the outside using my fingertips.
                          That's my method, anyway!
And yes, the loose snus does get soft. I just "reset" it from the outside using my fingertips, pushing it back into place and packing it firm again. You'll still end up with little bits getting loose in your mouth but I just wash it down with a drink. And as you practise that happens less and less, too.
But I use such a small portion I'm not a very good example...I know some folks use the whole capacity of the Icetool, and they even make a larger Icetool! I can't imagine that...I just couldn't do it!! Too much for me!

sounds like i'm sold. Swallowing a few bits of snus can't be that bad, hey

A little bit on a full stomach isn't too bad, but I had some funny feelings when I started using snus, especially trying new kinds. There can be pretty big differences in strength!
I learned to try new snus after a nice, big dinner...
