O I am fully aware however Cali is among the most notorious among legislating peoples lifestyle along with NY. Thank god there are no tobaccy free schools in the Commonwealth of VA.. Even our resturant smoking ban is lightly enforced at best.

EDIT : I believe Liberty Univ is tobacco free but to the best of my knowledge its the only one. And if you know the history of Liberty than this wouldnt surprise you in the least

This is the absolute beauty of snus! No one is the wiser. When I first started taking college courses (way back in the 1970's) everyone smoked everywhere. You could smoke in class. Then you could only smoke in the hallways. Then you had to go outside to smoke. Now, you can only smoke in your car. But you can snus anywhere! :-)

PS: I will be finally graduating in 2011 with my BSIT degree, because I work a full-time day job, and I'll be snussing while I walk up to get my diploma, and no one will freakin' know! LOL.

NO offense meant to my snus brothers in Cali but it would be a school on the left coast that is arrogant enough to try to force its faculty and students to quit smoking/dipping/snusing.. The last time I checked both my father and grand father fought to keep this a FREE country and it saddens me to watch freedom of choice fall with hardly a word said
My ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War, and all the wars after that, to protect our freedoms. My great, great, great, etc. grandfather was a gunsmith in Lexington/Concord, Massachusetts. He also ran a tavern. The Brits shot all his windows out, but his wife (my great, great, etc. grandmother) carried on the call to arms after Paul Revere was arrested. Freedom!

Dangit, dreed, you just brought back some memories .... and a few nightmares!!
That was the norm at all schools (and jobs) in MA back then. Times do change!

Imagine, though, snus has been around ~200 years (at least in Sweden)
with no major health problems attributed to it, yet it's as dangerous as
smoking, according to the nanny-staters. How do these people sleep?
Probably totally loaded; that's why they don't go after alcohol which
undoubtedly maims more kids than any tobacco!

If we let them get thrown under the bus over a bunch of nonsense, who's going to protect our interests? I'm for tobacco in all it's forms, and I consider an assault on any of us, an assault on me.
Yes, I've walked more than a mile in their shoes, dude! Totally agree! Nicotine is no more harmful than caffeine. It's the method of delivery that makes the difference between life and an early death. They are our brothers and sisters, and united we stand, divided we fall!

Yup. You are 100% correct! This whole thing is insane. Nicotine is no worse than caffeine.

I remember be able to smoke anywhere outside when I was in college. Then they restricted smoking to designated areas. Now it is banned anywhere on or around the campus including the public streets and sidewalks in front of the campus. I imagine that their next step will be to ban any form of tobacco use. You see, they start out with reasonable laws everybody can live with and then push those laws to the max over time. I am with lxskllr on this one. I think smoking is a terrible habit but if people are smoking outdoors it isn't anybody's business. I am sure that the schools are gladly accepting any funding from the government that may be funded with tobacco tax. This banning stuff is going overboard. I would love to see a "smoke in" on campus and would probably join them if they did it.

The absolute height of hypocrisy --- 'we really don't want you smoking
but we sure need/love all the money our (so-called) sin taxes bring in'.

Those taxes themselves are the real sin.

Just because something isn't great for you, it doesn't give the learning institutions carte blanc to parent. By the time someone's 15 or 16, they know what's up, and should be making their own decisions. Nannying from the state, or learning institutions isn't appropriate.
I wanted to say something along these lines, but lx did his damn vulcan-mind-thingy again and stole it from my brain. No, really, I thought of it first, and he can't prove otherwise...

I think it's wrong for a school to do this. You sign a contract with the school, and for them to just change the rules without imput is just wrong. I'd gather all the tobacco users there, and make a group, and call it the "Freedom Coalition", and call those who insitituted this rule, and Freedom Haters, and make a rally, and defy them, get the media in, and get someone to be the spokesperson, who can speak well, and tell how it's discrimination, oppression, and everyone's American duty to fight the Freedom Haters. Call them out, how they seek to destroy the fiber of the Nation, and how they desecrate the memory of those who fought and died for freedom.

Your kidding right? The government changes the rules without proper input all the time. Just think PACT, the Seneca Indians had a lawful business selling tobacco and look what happened to them.
